1) Regular (weak) verbs — pattern

Stem + endings. Example verb: spielen (to play).

Person Conjugation English
ichich spieleI play
dudu spielstyou (sing.) play
er/sie/eser spielthe plays
wirwir spielenwe play
ihrihr spieltyou (pl.) play
sie / Siesie spielenthey / You (formal) play

Perfekt (regular): ich habe gespielt. Formation: haben + ge- + stem + -t.

2) Irregular (strong) verbs — stem change

Many strong verbs change vowel in 2nd and 3rd person singular and have irregular past participles.

Example: sprechen (to speak)
ich spreche · du sprichst · er/sie/es spricht · wir sprechen · ihr sprecht · sie/Sie sprechen

Perfekt (irregular): er hat gesprochen. Note: no -t ending; many use ge- + root + -en.

Special notes: - sein, haben, gehen are irregular. - Movement verbs like gehen use sein in Perfekt: ich bin gegangen. - Mixed verbs (e.g., bringen) have mixed patterns (past participle gebracht).

Key points — Pronouns

1) Personal pronouns (Nominative)

Ich = I, Du = you (singular, informal), Er/ Sie/ Es = he / she / it, Wir = we, Ihr = you (plural informal), Sie = they or formal you.

GermanEnglish

sie / Siethey / You (formal)

2) Possessive pronouns (basic forms)

Forms in nominative (singular): mein, dein, sein, ihr, unser, euer, ihr, Ihr.

Short examples (gender matters):
