Topic: Sentence Formation — Subject: Literacy (Age 7, Kenya)

1. What is a good sentence?

  • It starts with a capital letter. (Example: Amina)
  • Words in the sentence are spelled correctly.
  • It ends with a full stop (.), a question mark (?) or an exclamation mark (!).
  • There is a space between each word.

2. Quick spelling rules for sentences

  • Start with a capital: The first word and names are capitalized. ✅ Example: Kenya, Nairobi.
  • Use the correct spelling of small words: the, a, an, and, is, are, I, he, she. These show the sentence parts. ✅
  • Plural -s: Add -s for more than one. cat → cats. ✅ (Keep simple; use -es for words ending in ch, sh later.)
  • Verb -s for he/she/it: Add -s to many verbs when the subject is he, she or it. (He runs, She eats.) ✅
  • Spacing: One space between words. No missing spaces. ✅

  1. Listen and say the word out loud. 🔊
  2. Break the word into sounds (syllables). Example: Na-i-ro-bi → Nairobi. ✂️
