CRE Notes — Creation: Self-awareness

What is self-awareness?

Self-awareness means knowing who you are. It is:

  • I know my name and my age.
  • I know my feelings (happy, sad, angry, excited).
  • I know what I like and what I do not like.
  • I know that God made me special.

Why is self-awareness important?

When you know yourself you can:

  • Make good choices.
  • Tell others how you feel.
  • Use your gifts to help people and God’s world (like your family, school, and community in Kenya).

God and Creation

The Bible teaches that God made everything. He made you and me. Because God made us:

  • We are special and loved by God.
  • We should take care of ourselves and the world — trees, animals, rivers, and the mountains like Mount Kenya.

Memory Verse

"I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made." — Psalm 139:14

(Say it out loud a few times. Can you say it with a clap on each word?)

Fun Activities (for home or class)

  1. Draw me: Draw yourself. Write your name, age and one thing you like (e.g., chapati, football, drawing).
  2. Feelings circle: Draw a circle and divide into four parts. Draw a face in each part for happy, sad, angry, and excited. Colour them.
  3. Mirror game: Look in a mirror and say three good things about yourself (e.g., "I am kind", "I can sing").
  4. Thank God walk: Take a short walk with a parent or teacher. Point to one thing God made (tree, bird, cloud) and say "Thank you, God."

Questions to think about

  • What is one thing you like about yourself?
  • How can you use your gift to help someone at home or at school?
  • Which part of God’s creation makes you happy?

A short prayer

Dear God, thank you for making me. Help me to know myself and to love others. Teach me to care for Your creation. Amen.
