Grade 2 CRE The Early Life Of Jesus Christ – Visitors Who Visited Baby Jesus Notes
Subject: CRE — The Early Life of Jesus Christ
Subtopic: Visitors Who Visited Baby Jesus
Simple story (for teacher to tell)
A long time ago in Bethlehem, baby Jesus was born. Angels told some shepherds about the good news. The shepherds went quickly and found Jesus in a small house with Mary and Joseph. Later, wise men (kings) from far away followed a bright star. They brought gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh and worshipped baby Jesus. People came to see Jesus because they wanted to love and honour him.

Specific Learning Outcomes (SLOs)
- By the end of the lesson, learners will be able to name at least two groups who visited baby Jesus (the shepherds and the wise men).
- Listen and retell the short story of visitors to baby Jesus using simple words or pictures.
- Recognize that people came to worship and give gifts to Jesus because he was special.
- Create a simple drawing or craft showing one visitor (shepherd or wise man).
Bible verse to remember
Luke 2:11 (simple): "Today a Saviour is born for you." (Teacher: say the verse and have pupils repeat line by line.)
Suggested Learning Experiences (age 7, Kenya)
-
Storytelling with pictures — Teacher reads the simple story slowly and shows picture cards:
- Card 1: Angels announce to shepherds (use 👼, 🐑 pictures).
- Card 2: Shepherds visiting the baby (👶, 👪, 🐑).
- Card 3: Wise men with gifts following a star (👑, ⭐).
- Role-play / Nativity play — Pupils act the story. Give small roles: Mary, Joseph, baby (doll), shepherds, wise men, angel. Use simple costumes (shawls, paper crowns). - Learning: helps children remember who visited and why.
- Craft: Make a bright star — pupils cut star shapes from paper, colour and paste glitter (or shiny paper). Hang schools' stars on classroom wall to show the star that led the wise men.
- Drawing and colouring — Ask pupils to draw one visitor (a shepherd or a wise man) and write one word: "worship", "gifts" or "joy".
- Matching game — On cards write or draw: gold, frankincense, myrrh, sheep, star. Pupils match the gift to the wise men and the sheep to the shepherds.
- Song and movement — Teach a short simple song: "Star, star, show the way; lead the wise men to baby today." Add clapping or stepping.
- Map talk (short, simple) — Show where Bethlehem is and where Kenya is. Explain that wise men came from far away just like some visitors travel from other places to visit babies in Kenya.
Assessment ideas (short)
- Ask each pupil to name one visitor to baby Jesus and say why they came.
- Check one drawing or craft per pupil — can they show the star or the gift?
- Sing the short song and see if learners join in the refrain.
Classroom safety & values
Use scissors and glue safely. Encourage kindness — explain that visitors came with respect and gifts. Teach pupils to be respectful when acting or listening to stories about religious people.
Teacher tip: Keep language simple. Use pictures and actions. Praise children when they try to retell the story.
End with the little blessing: "Let us be kind to others like the visitors who showed love to baby Jesus."
