CRE: The Holy Bible

Subtopic: The Story of Noah and the Ark

Suitable for: Class level (age 7) — Kenyan context

Noah's Ark • God keeps His promises (the rainbow)

Short Story (easy to understand)

A long time ago, people were doing many bad things and forgetting God. God chose a good man called Noah. God told Noah to build a big boat called an ark. Noah obeyed. He took his family and many animals into the ark — two by two. Then it rained for 40 days and nights and the whole land was covered with water. The ark kept Noah and the animals safe. When the water went down, God sent a rainbow as a promise that He would never destroy the whole earth by flood again.

Specific Learning Outcomes

  • By the end of the lesson, pupils will be able to retell the main events of Noah and the Ark in their own words (3–5 sentences).
  • Name the main characters: God, Noah, Noah’s family, and some animals.
  • Explain in simple words what the rainbow means (God’s promise).
  • Show obedience and care by joining in a role-play or drawing activity (make an ark or draw a rainbow).
  • Recite a short memory verse about listening to God or His promises.

Suggested Learning Experiences (teacher's activities)

  1. Tell the story: Read a short Bible version (Genesis 6–9) in simple language. Use picture cards or the SVG image above to show the ark, animals, dove, and rainbow.
  2. Class discussion: Ask questions: Who is Noah? What did God tell him to do? Why did Noah obey? What does the rainbow mean?
  3. Role play: Pupils act out building the ark, caring for animals, and the dove bringing the olive leaf. Use simple props (cardboard ark, paper animal masks).
  4. Art and craft: Make a paper ark or draw the ark and a rainbow. Let pupils colour two of each animal and glue them onto the ark (pairs).
  5. Counting and pair game: Match animals into pairs (zebra, elephant, giraffe — use Kenyan animals to connect with learners).
  6. Memory verse: Teach a short verse (example below). Recite it together and do actions to help memorise.
  7. Reflection & Prayer: Talk about why obeying and caring for others is important. Say a simple prayer thanking God for His care and promises.

Memory Verse (short)

Genesis 9:13 (simple words): "I have set my rainbow in the clouds — a sign of my promise." 🌈

(Teacher can give a shorter version for class: "God keeps His promises.")

Class Activities (quick ideas)

  • Colour-and-label: draw Noah, ark, animals, rainbow.
  • Pair-animal game: give cards with animals; pupils find their pair.
  • Song: sing a simple song about the ark (clap for rain, sway for waves).
  • Show-and-tell: bring a toy animal and say one sentence about caring for it.

Notes for the Teacher & Assessment

Use Kenyan animals in examples to make the story familiar (e.g., elephant, giraffe, zebra, lion). Keep language simple and repeat the main events. Check learning by asking pupils to:

  • Draw the ark and write 1–2 sentences about the story.
  • Retell the story in order using picture cards.
  • Recite the memory verse or say "God keeps His promises."

Review Questions (for the pupils)

  1. Who was Noah? 🧑‍🌾
  2. What did God tell Noah to build?
  3. Why did the animals go into the ark in pairs?
  4. What did the dove bring when it came back?
  5. What does the rainbow mean? 🌈

Encourage kindness, obedience and care for God’s creation. Use story telling, songs and crafts to help children remember the lesson.

Blessings — enjoy teaching this story!
