Subtopic: Learners' Similarities and Differences

👧🏽 👦🏿 👦🏼 👧🏻
Age: 7 years — simple and short ideas
Context: Kenyan classroom — we are all made by God and He loves everyone.

Learning Objectives

  • Children will name things that make people similar.
  • Children will name things that make people different.
  • Children will show respect and kindness to everyone because God made us.

Key Idea (short)

God created people. We are the same because we are all human. We are different in many ways like hair, skin, and likes. These differences are good.

Simple Bible Reminder

"God made people" — Genesis 1:27 (simple): God made us in His image. That means we are special. ❤️

Examples for Children

Similarities (Same)
  • We all need food and water.
  • We can laugh and cry.
  • We can learn at school.
Differences (Different)
  • Skin colour (brown, dark, light).
  • Hair (short, long, curly).
  • Clothes and favourite games.

Classroom Activity — "Same or Different"

  1. Teacher shows pictures or children look at classmates (with permission).
  2. Children say one thing that is the same and one thing that is different.
  3. Children draw two faces on a page: one similar friend and one different friend. Use colours! 🎨
Tip for teachers: Give paper and crayons. Remind children to be kind in what they say.

Short Song / Rhyme

(To the tune of "Twinkle, Twinkle")

We are different, we are same,

God loves all and calls our name. ✨

Prayer (short)

Dear God, thank you for making me and my friends. Help us to be kind and love each other. Amen. 🙏

Questions for Assessment (oral)

  • Give one thing that is the same about you and your friend. (Answer: e.g., we go to the same school.)
  • Give one thing that is different about you and your friend. (Answer: e.g., hair or favourite food.)
  • Why should we be kind to everyone? (Answer: Because God made everyone and loves them.)
Teacher's Note: Keep examples positive. Encourage children to celebrate differences and find what they share. Use local Kenyan examples (food: ugali, chapati; games: playing football or skipping) to make learning familiar.
