Poem (short and easy to learn)

Little Jesus, born at night, ✨
In Bethlehem so calm and bright. 🌟
Mary smiled and Joseph cared, ❤️
Shepherds came because they heard. 🐑

Angels sang with joyful song, 🎶
“Peace and love for everyone!” 🕊️
Little Jesus grew each day, 🌱
Helping others all the way. 🤝

We can be kind like Him today, ☀️
Helping friends in every way. 👫
Little Jesus, gentle and true, 💫
We try to follow and be like You. ✨

Suggested Learning Experiences (Kenyan context, age 7)
  1. Listen and Repeat: Teacher or parent reads the poem slowly. Learners repeat line by line until comfortable.
  2. Draw the Story: Children draw baby Jesus in a manger, Mary, Joseph and a star. Use crayons, paper and simple materials found at home or school.
  3. Act It Out (Nativity Play): Small groups act the poem. Roles: Baby Jesus (doll), Mary, Joseph, shepherds, angels. Use simple costumes (shawls, cardboards).
  4. Sing it to a Tune: Put the poem into a short melody from a known nursery rhyme so children can sing easily during Sunday school.
  5. Class Talk: Ask: Where was Jesus born? Who looked after Him? How can we be kind like Jesus at home and school (helping a friend, sharing food)?
  6. Make a Paper Star: Use old foil, cardboard and string to make a star to hang in the classroom—connects to the Kenyan craft habit of using recycled materials.
Activities & Questions (short)
  • Memory Task: Try to learn the first two lines of the poem by the next class.
  • Draw and Label: Draw Mary, Joseph and the manger. Write one word each: "Mary", "Joseph", "Bethlehem".
  • Oral Questions:
    • Where was Jesus born?
    • Who visited the baby Jesus?
    • What can you do to be kind like Jesus?
Simple Verse to Remember

"A Saviour has been born for you." (Luke 2:11 – short form for children)

🕊️
🎶

Use these simple symbols to help remember parts of the story: star (Bethlehem), dove/angel (good news), music (song of the angels).

Teacher note: Keep activities short and active. Encourage children to use local materials and to share what they draw or act out with the class. Celebrate kindness shown by learners in the week.
