CRE — The Early Life of Jesus Christ
Subtopic: The Gifts Brought To Baby Jesus
For learners aged 7 — Kenyan context

What happened?

After Jesus was born in Bethlehem, wise men (called Magi) traveled from far away. They followed a bright star (the Star of Bethlehem) to find baby Jesus. When they found him, they gave him three special gifts.

🌟👑🎁
Gold — 👑

Gold is a very valuable metal. The wise men gave gold to Jesus because it is a gift fit for a king. This shows that Jesus is a King.

Frankincense — 🌿

Frankincense is a sweet-smelling gum used in worship. The wise men gave it to say that Jesus is holy and should be praised.

Myrrh — 🌺

Myrrh is used for perfume and medicine. Giving myrrh showed respect and care. It also reminds us that Jesus came to help people who were sick and in need.

Why did the wise men bring gifts?

  • To honour baby Jesus because he was special.
  • To show love and respect from far away countries.
  • To celebrate the birth of the King and to say “welcome.”

What we learn (simple points)

  • It is good to give from our hearts, not just with money. A small gift can show love.
  • We can honour God by praying, singing and helping others.
  • People can travel long distances to show their respect — like the wise men.

Fun activities (for class or at home)

  1. Draw the Star of Bethlehem and colour the three gifts (gold, frankincense, myrrh).
  2. Make paper gift boxes and write kind messages for family or friends.
  3. Act out the nativity: one child can be a wise man and give a pretend gift to baby Jesus (a doll or picture).
  4. Sing a short Christmas carol at church or at home with family.

A short prayer

Dear Jesus, thank you for coming to us. Help me to give with love and care. Amen. 🙏

Teacher / Parent tip

Ask children: "If you could give one gift to someone to show love, what would it be?" Let them share and draw their gift.
