Subtopic: Reasons Why God Chose Noah

🛶 🐘 🦁 🦒 🐒 🐦 🌈

Short story (simple)

A long time ago, people did wrong things and God was sad. But Noah was different. He loved God, listened to God, and obeyed. God told Noah to build an ark (a big boat). Noah obeyed. God chose Noah to keep his family safe and to save animals. After the flood, God put a rainbow in the sky as a promise. (Genesis 6–9)

Why God chose Noah — simple reasons

  1. He was righteous (he did what is right). Noah tried to do the right things even when others did wrong. Example: he told the truth and helped others.
  2. He obeyed God. When God told him to build the ark, Noah did it even if it was hard.
  3. He trusted God. Noah believed God would keep him safe. We call this faith.
  4. He was kind and cared for his family and animals. He made a safe place for animals and his family.
  5. He listened and followed instructions. Noah listened to God and acted on what God said.

What this means for you (simple examples)

  • Be honest — tell the truth like Noah.
  • Obey your parents and your teacher (mwalimu) — this is like obeying God.
  • Help others and care for animals — show kindness.
  • Trust God and pray when you are afraid.

Specific Learning Outcomes (for learners age 7)

  • Say at least three reasons why God chose Noah using simple words. (e.g., Noah obeyed, trusted God, was kind)
  • Repeat a short memory verse: "Noah found favor with God." (Genesis 6:8, simple form)
  • Show one act of obedience in class or at home (e.g., help a friend, follow a rule).
  • Draw and colour a picture of Noah, the ark, or a rainbow with at least two animals.

Suggested Learning Experiences (fun and easy)

  1. Story time: Teacher (mwalimu) tells the Noah story in simple words. Show pictures of an ark and Kenyan animals: tembo (elephant), simba (lion), twiga (giraffe), punda milia (zebra), nyani (monkey).
  2. Memory verse: Say together: "Noah found favor with God." Repeat 3 times. Make a small clap after the verse.
  3. Role play: Children act out building the ark and gathering animals in pairs. One child is Noah, others are family or animals. Use scarves or paper tails for animal costumes.
  4. Drawing and colouring: Make a paper ark and draw two of your favourite animals. Use bright colours for the rainbow.
  5. Matching game: Make cards with pictures of good actions (helping, telling truth) and bad actions (fighting). Ask learners to sort them into "Noah liked" (good) and "Noah did not like" (bad).
  6. Prayer and reflection: Say a short prayer thanking God for caring for families and animals. Encourage children to promise one kind thing they will do this week.

Materials needed

Paper, crayons, scissors, glue, simple animal pictures, scarves for role-play, and a picture of a rainbow.

Quick activity (5 minutes): Ask each child to say one reason God chose Noah and draw a small rainbow beside it.

For learners in Kenya (age 7): simple, fun, and helpful ways to learn about Noah and how we can be obedient and kind.
