THE BIBLE: SELECTED TEACHINGS

Topic: topic_name_replace   |   Subject: subject_replace   |   Target age: age_replace

Overview πŸ•ŠοΈ

These notes introduce selected teachings from the Bible that shape Christian life and values. Each teaching is explained simply, paired with a short Bible reference, and shown with practical ways these ideas matter in Kenyan homes, schools and communities for learners aged age_replace.

Learning intentions 🎯

  • Understand key Bible teachings and their meaning in everyday life.
  • Explain how these teachings apply to personal behaviour, family life and community service in Kenya.
  • Reflect and act on selected teachings through simple class and home activities.

Selected Teachings (with short explanations)

1. Love God and your neighbour ❀️ Text: Mark 12:30–31; Matthew 22:37–39

Love is the central command: love God and show practical care to others. In Kenya this can mean welcoming neighbours, helping in times of need, and treating people of different backgrounds with respect.

2. Forgiveness and reconciliation ✨ Text: Matthew 18:21–22; Colossians 3:13

Forgiveness repairs relationships and promotes peace. Practical example: resolving conflicts in schools, families and community meetings through honest apology and reconciliation.

3. Justice, mercy and care for the poor βš–οΈ Text: Micah 6:8; Isaiah 1:17; Luke 10:25–37

The Bible calls for fairness and helping the vulnerable. In a Kenyan setting this means supporting orphans, visiting the sick, standing against injustice and helping neighbours after floods or crop failures.

4. Honesty, integrity and wise speech πŸ—£οΈ Text: Proverbs 12:22; Ephesians 4:25

Truthfulness builds trust. Students are encouraged to practise honesty in exams, everyday dealings, and in representing facts in reports or school councils.

5. Stewardship of resources and creation 🌍 Text: Genesis 2:15; Psalm 24:1

Caring for God’s creation means responsible use of land, water and effort. Locally: planting trees, proper waste disposal, and wise use of school resources.

6. Prayer, trust and faith ✝️ Text: Philippians 4:6–7; Matthew 6:5–13

Prayer is a way of communicating with God and seeking guidance. For learners, it can be a source of comfort during exams, family concerns or community challenges.

Practical application in Kenyan life πŸ‡°πŸ‡ͺ

  • Community help: organise a class collection to support a local child or family in need.
  • School character: form a peer-help group that models forgiveness, fairness and honesty.
  • Environmental action: plant trees during national tree-planting day and practice proper waste disposal.
  • Family practice: daily or weekly family prayers and short reflections on a Bible story that teaches a values point.

Classroom activities (short & simple)

  1. Role-play a neighbour-helping scene (Luke 10:25–37) and discuss who showed love.
  2. Small groups list ways to show honesty at school and present one action to practise for a week.
  3. Reflection journal: write one short prayer and one action you will take this week to help someone.
  4. Community map: identify local places that need support (clinic, school, elder’s home) and suggest one way to help.

Memory verse 🧠

"Love your neighbour as yourself." β€” Matthew 22:39 (simple form for memorisation)

Reflection questions ✍️

  • Which teaching from today can you use at home this week? How will you do it?
  • Think of a time someone forgave you. How did it change the relationship?
  • How can young people in your village or town promote fairness and help the poor?
