CRE NOTES — THE BIBLE: SELECTED TEACHINGS

Subtopic: Christian Moral Values — Sexual Purity (for age 14)

What is sexual purity?

Sexual purity means respecting God's plan for relationships and sex. For Christians it means keeping sexual activity for marriage and avoiding actions, thoughts or behaviour that hurt ourselves or others. 🕊️

Bible teachings (short & clear)
  • 1 Corinthians 6:18–20 — Flee sexual immorality; your body is God's temple. 🙏
  • 1 Thessalonians 4:3–5 — God wants you to be pure and control your body in a holy way.
  • Hebrews 13:4 — Marriage should be honoured; keep sexual relations inside marriage.
  • Matthew 5:27–28 — Wrong desires (lust) are also harmful; purity includes thoughts.
  • Genesis 2:24 — Marriage joins two people; sex belongs in that commitment.
Why it matters
  • Spiritual: keeps your relationship with God strong.
  • Emotional: protects your feelings and self-respect.
  • Physical: lowers risk of early pregnancy and infections.
  • Social: protects trust in friendships and family.
  • Cultural: respects family and community values in Kenya.
How to practise sexual purity — practical tips
  1. Set clear boundaries. Decide what you will and won't do. Talk about these with a trusted friend or adult.
  2. Respect your body. Treat your body as God's gift. Dress and act in ways that make you feel safe and respected.
  3. Guard your thoughts. Avoid music, videos or social media that encourage lustful thinking.
  4. Avoid risky situations. Don’t be alone in private places with someone if you feel pressure to do something you’re not ready for.
  5. Use technology wisely. Don't share private photos or messages. Block or report people who pressure you online. 🔒
  6. Learn to say NO firmly. You can leave, call a friend, or speak to an adult if you feel unsafe.
  7. Find accountability. Meet with a youth leader, parent, or mentor who supports your choices.
Role of family & church

Parents, teachers and church leaders guide you, teach values and offer prayer and counselling. In Kenya, families and churches often help young people make good choices and find support.

Consequences of ignoring purity
  • Emotional hurt and regret
  • Unplanned pregnancy or STIs
  • Loss of trust from family or friends
  • Spiritual distress or feeling distant from God
Memory verse

"Flee from sexual immorality. Every other sin a person commits is outside the body, but the sexually immoral person sins against his own body." — 1 Corinthians 6:18 (ESV)

Short class activity (10–15 minutes)
  1. Pair up and talk for 5 minutes: name two ways to avoid pressure from a partner.
  2. Write one personal boundary you will keep this term and share it with a trusted adult.
