Grade 4 Social Studies Culture And Social Organizations – The School Notes
A school is a place where children learn from teachers. At school you learn subjects like English, Kiswahili, Maths and Social Studies. You also learn how to live well with others and how to keep your culture.
- Headteacher (leads the school)
- Teachers (teach lessons)
- Prefects and class monitors (help keep order)
- Pupils (you and your friends)
- Parents and PTA (help the school)
- Morning assembly: flag 🇰🇪, prayer and morning song
- Class lessons and break time
- Clubs and games after lessons
- Home time and homework
Culture in school includes the way we greet elders, the songs we sing, school uniform, and celebrations. In many Kenyan schools we raise the national flag and sing the National Anthem. We also use the word "Harambee" to show we work together.
Clubs help pupils learn skills and make friends. Many Kenyan schools have:
- Scouts and Guides (outdoor skills and teamwork) 🥾
- School Red Cross (first aid and care) ❤️
- Drama and Music clubs (performing and culture) 🎭🎵
- Environmental or Green Club (tree planting) 🌳
- Debate or Quiz clubs (learn to speak and think) 🗣️
- Schools teach good manners and values like honesty, respect and hard work.
- Pupils help in community projects like clean-ups and tree planting.
- Parents and teachers meet in the PTA to solve problems and raise funds. This shows the spirit of Harambee.
- Listen to your teacher and do your classwork.
- Respect other pupils and teachers.
- Keep the classroom and school clean.
- Join a club to learn new skills.
- Wear your uniform neatly and on time.
- Draw your school and label the headteacher's office, classroom, and playground. ✏️
- Write 3 things your school does to keep Kenyan culture. 🇰🇪
- Talk to your parent about the last PTA meeting. What did they say? 🗣️
