  6. f) Value the Qur’an as a book of guidance to mankind.

1. Why was the Qur’an revealed? 📖

- Allah revealed the Qur’an to guide people. It teaches how to worship, be kind, be honest and live well together.
- It shows right from wrong, gives stories of earlier peoples, and teaches rules for life and worship.

2. Stages of Revelation — a sign of mercy 🌙

- The Qur’an came over about 23 years in Makkah and Madinah. This gradual sending is a mercy because:

  • • People could learn and understand slowly.
  • • Laws were given when people were ready to follow them.
  • • It guided the Prophet and the community step-by-step during events.

3. The first revelation at Cave Hira — importance of seeking knowledge 🕯️

- Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) used to go to Cave Hira near Makkah to pray and think. One night Angel Jibreel (Gabriel) came and said the first words of revelation: "Iqra" (Read). The first revealed verses were from Surah Al-ʿAlaq.
- This event teaches us that seeking knowledge and spending time to understand Allah’s message is important.

4. Why revealed in portions? ➗

- Revealing the Qur’an bit by bit helped people memorize, understand, and practise its teachings.
- Like learning to read or ride a bike, small steps make learning easier and lasting.

5. Importance of the Qur’an in daily life 🏠

- The Qur’an guides Muslims in worship (e.g., prayer), manners (honesty, kindness), family life and choices.
- It is used in mosques, at home, in school (madrasa) and during important events (weddings, funerals). In Kenya many children learn Qur’an in masjid or madrasa and at home with family.

6. Valuing the Qur’an — how we show respect 🤲

  • • Handle the Qur’an carefully and keep it clean.
  • • Learn short surahs and their meanings.
  • • Use it to make better choices and help others.
Suggested Learning Experiences (age 9, Kenya)
  1. Story time: Teacher tells the story of Cave Hira with simple pictures. Pupils draw the cave scene and write one sentence about seeking knowledge.
  2. Role play: Children act the first revelation—one child is the Prophet, another is the angel. After, discuss how we should seek knowledge.
  3. Sequence cards: Give cards showing stages (Makkah, Madinah, bits of revelation). Children put them in order and explain why slow teaching helps.
  4. Memorisation practice: Learn a short surah (e.g., Surah Al-Fatiha opening lines or a short surah) and explain its simple meaning in Kiswahili/English.
  5. Visit or invite: Visit a local mosque/madrasa or invite an imam to talk about how Qur’an helps people in Kenya.
  6. Class chart: Make a “How I use the Qur’an” chart — pupils draw one way the Qur’an helps them (home, school, mosque).
Assessment (simple checks)
  • • Ask pupils to tell the story of Cave Hira in their own words (oral).
  • • Give 4 short questions: Why was the Qur’an revealed? Name one reason it was revealed in portions. How does the Qur’an help families?
  • • Practical: Each pupil recites a learned short surah or a verse and explains one meaning.
  • • Activity check: Show the “How I use the Qur’an” chart and ask children to explain their drawing.
