CRE Notes — Creation

Subtopic: Self-awareness (for Age 9)

1. What is self-awareness?

Self-awareness means knowing yourself. It is knowing:

  • Who you are (your name, family, and where you live).
  • Your feelings (happy, sad, angry, excited).
  • Your gifts and things you are good at (singing, running, helping others).

God made you special. When we learn about ourselves, we learn more about God's good creation. 🌍

2. What the Bible says

Read Genesis 1:27 together: "God created man in his own image." This means God made each person precious and unique.

We can thank God for making us the way we are. 🙏

3. Examples from Kenya

  • Like Mount Kenya and Lake Victoria, each person is different but part of God's creation.
  • In town or village, people have different jobs and talents — a farmer, a teacher, a matatu driver — all made by God.
  • Animals and trees are also God's creation. We learn about ourselves by caring for them.

4. Short activity — Mirror time

You will need a small mirror and a notebook.

  1. Look into the mirror for one minute. Smile. Say your name out loud.
  2. Write three things you like about yourself in the notebook (e.g., "I am kind", "I am good at running").
  3. Say a short prayer: "Thank you, God, for making me." 🙏

5. Questions to think about (talk with your teacher or parent)

  • What makes you special?
  • How can you use your gifts to help others at home or in school?
  • How does caring for creation (plants, animals, clean water) show love to God?

6. Short memory verse

Genesis 1:27 — "God created mankind in his own image."

Repeat it each morning. Try to say it without looking in the Bible. 📖

7. Mini quiz (True / False)

  1. Self-awareness means knowing yourself well. (True)
  2. God made everyone the same. (False)
  3. Caring for God's creation helps us learn about ourselves. (True)

8. Craft idea — "My God-made Self" poster

Materials: paper, crayons, old magazines, glue.

  • Draw yourself in the middle of the paper.
  • Around the picture, write or paste pictures of things you like, your family, and things you can do.
  • Title it: "Made by God". Hang it in your room. 🌟

9. Simple closing prayer

"Dear God, thank you for making me. Help me to know myself and to use my gifts to help others. Amen." 🙏

Teacher tip: Use local examples (nearby river, school garden, local market) to help children relate to the idea of creation and self-awareness.
