CRE Notes: Obedience at School

Subject: Christian Religious Education (CRE) β€” Target age: 9 years (Kenyan primary)

What is obedience?

Obedience means listening and doing what teachers, school leaders and adults ask you to do. It helps everyone learn and keeps you safe. πŸ“šπŸ‘©β€πŸ«πŸ‘¨β€πŸ«

Why obey at school?
  • It helps you learn better.
  • It keeps you and others safe (e.g., during play, on the road).
  • Teachers can teach when children are quiet and attentive.
  • You show respect and make your school a good place to be.
  • Obedience pleases God and follows Jesus’ example. πŸ™
Simple school rules to obey
  1. Be on time for class and assembly. ⏰
  2. Wear the correct uniform and keep it tidy. πŸ‘•
  3. Listen when the teacher talks; raise your hand to speak. βœ‹
  4. Do your homework and classwork. βœ…
  5. Keep the school clean and respect school property. 🧹
Bible verses to remember

Luke 2:51 – "And he went down with them and came to Nazareth and was obedient to them." (Jesus obeyed his parents.)
Ephesians 6:1 – "Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right." (Obedience pleases God.)

How to show obedience at school (easy steps)
  • Listen with your eyes and ears when the teacher speaks.
  • Follow instructions the first time they are given.
  • Ask nicely if you don’t understand: "Teacher, may I ask a question?"
  • Help classmates when the teacher asks you to work together.
  • Say "sorry" if you make a mistake and try to do better next time.
Consequences of not obeying

If you do not obey, you may get a warning, lose play time, be given extra tasks, or make learning harder for others. Always try to obey so everyone is happy and safe.

Class activity: Role play (5–10 minutes)

In pairs, act out one of these scenes. Use polite words and show obedience.

  • Scene A: A teacher asks the class to line up for assembly.
  • Scene B: A student is told to stop running in the classroom.
  • Scene C: A pupil helps a friend tidy up after break when the teacher asks.
