CRE Notes for Class
Subject: CRE • Topic: The Life of Jesus Christ
Subtopic: The Ten Lepers
Bible story reference: Luke 17:11–19
Memory verse: "One of them, when he saw that he was healed, came back, praising God." (Luke 17:15)
Short story (easy words):

As Jesus walked to Jerusalem, ten men who had leprosy stood far away and called, "Jesus, Master, have mercy on us!" (In Bible times leprosy made people very sick and others stayed away from them.) Jesus told them to go and show themselves to the priest. While they were going, the leprosy left them — they were healed! Only one came back to say thank you. He praised God and thanked Jesus. Jesus said, "Where are the other nine?" and told the man his faith had made him well.

What this story teaches
  • Be thankful — always say "Thank you" to God and people.
  • Have faith — Jesus can help and heal.
  • Show kindness — include and care for people who are lonely or left out.
Words to know
  • Leprosy — a sickness people had long ago (today it can be treated).
  • Mercy — kindness from someone even when you do not deserve it.
  • Faith — trusting God even when you cannot see the answer yet.
Class activities (fun & simple)
  1. Role play: One group is the ten men, one is Jesus. Practice asking for help and saying "thank you."
  2. Draw: Make a picture of the healed man praising God. Add sun and smiles! ☀️😊
  3. Thank-you cards: Make cards to give to someone who helped you — teacher, parent, friend.
Questions for children (talk about together)
  • Why did only one man return to say thank you?
  • How would you feel if you were healed? What would you do?
  • How can we be kind to people who feel left out at school or in our village?
Apply this in our Kenyan life
  • Invite a lonely classmate to play or join your group at break time.
  • Visit or send a message to someone who is sick at home or in hospital.
  • Always say thank you to helpers at church, school or in the market.
Short prayer (say together):

Dear Jesus, thank you for your love. Help us to have faith and to always say thank you. Teach us to be kind to others. Amen. ✝️🙏

Tip for teachers: Read Luke 17:11–19 aloud, let pupils retell in their own words, then do the role play and thank-you card craft.
