CRE Notes: Showing Love To Others

Topic: Christian Values | Subtopic: Showing Love To Others (Age 9)

Love is a choice to care, help and be kind to other people. Jesus teaches us to love everyone — family, friends, neighbours and even people we do not know.

Love is helping hands ❤️

Biblical teaching (easy words)

  • Jesus said: "Love one another." (John 13:34) — He wants us to care for others.
  • Good Samaritan: A man helped a hurt stranger on the road. He showed love by stopping to help. (Luke 10:25–37)
  • God is love: When we love others, we show God's love. (1 John 4:7–8)

Ways to show love (Simple things you can do)

  1. Share your food and school supplies with a classmate who needs them.
  2. Help your mother or father at home: fetch water, sweep, or look after a younger sister or brother.
  3. Be kind and say nice words — "thank you", "please", and "sorry" when needed.
  4. Help an elderly neighbour carry shopping or at the farm (Harambee spirit).
  5. Invite a new child at church or school to play with you.
  6. Forgive someone who says sorry — forgiving is showing love.

Kenyan examples (you know these!)

  • Sharing maize flour (unga) with a family that has little food.
  • Helping neighbours at a harambee to build a house or school.
  • Standing up for a classmate who is being mocked.
  • Welcoming visitors at church with a smile and offering a seat.

Short memory verse (learn this)

"Love one another." — John 13:34

Class activity (fun and quick)

Role play: In groups of three, one child pretends to be hurt or sad, one is a passer-by who ignores them, and one is a helper (like the Good Samaritan). Discuss which action shows love.

Craft idea

Make a "Love Card" for a neighbour: fold paper, draw a big heart, write "God loves you" and add one kind promise (e.g., "I will help fetch water on Saturday").

Short prayer

Dear God, help me to love others like Jesus. Teach me to be kind, helpful and forgiving. Amen.

Quick questions (talk about these)

  1. Give one way you can show love at school.
  2. Who in your community could you help this week?
  3. Why did the Good Samaritan show love even though the hurt man was a stranger?
Keep practising love every day — small kind acts make big change! 🌍❤️
