CRE Notes โ€” Christian Values

Subtopic: Obedience at Home (Age 9, Kenya)

What is obedience?

Obedience means listening to your parents, guardians and elders and doing what they tell you to do. It shows love and respect. โœ…๐Ÿ™๐Ÿพ

Bible memory verse (short):

"Children, obey your parents, for this pleases the Lord." โ€” Ephesians 6:1 (paraphrase)

Say it aloud three times and try to remember it each day.
Why obey at home?
  • It keeps you safe (rules keep danger away).
  • It shows respect to parents and God.
  • It helps your family work well together.
  • It builds good habits for school and life.
Christian reason

Obedience pleases God. Jesus teaches us to love and honour others. When we obey, we show Christian love. โœ๏ธโค๏ธ

Ways to show obedience at home (Kenyan examples)
  1. Greet elders politely โ€” "Shikamoo" / "Good morning". ๐Ÿ‘‹๐Ÿพ
  2. Help with small chores: sweep the floor, set the table, wash dishes. ๐Ÿงน๐Ÿฝ๏ธ
  3. Prepare your school bag and uniform the night before. ๐ŸŽ’
  4. Listen to rules about safety โ€” e.g., not playing near busy roads, not going with strangers. ๐Ÿšธ
  5. Finish homework on time and follow parents' advice about studies. ๐Ÿ“š
  6. Share and help siblings when asked. ๐Ÿค
Good example

Mama asks you to fetch a cup of water. You say, "Okay," and fetch it quickly. You smile and say, "Here you go!" ๐Ÿ˜Š

Bad example

Papa asks you to tidy the room. You ignore him and play instead. This makes Papa sad and causes trouble. ๐Ÿ˜•

Simple activity โ€” Obedience sticker chart

Make a chart with days of the week. Put a sticker (โญ) each time you obey a helpful rule. If you get 10 stars, you get a small reward (extra story time, a small treat).

Role-play (short):

Parent: "Please wash your plate now."

Child (obedient): "Yes, I will wash it now." (Washes plate and smiles)

Discuss: How did the parent feel? How did the child feel?

Short prayer

Dear God, help me to obey my parents and do what is right. Give me a kind heart and help my family. Amen. ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿพ

Questions to think about or discuss at home/school
  • Why is it good to obey our parents?
  • What can you do today to show obedience at home?
  • How does obeying help your family and please God?

Remember: Obedience is love in action. When you obey at home, you make God, your parents and yourself happy. ๐ŸŒŸ๐Ÿ
