Telling The Truth Always

Subject: CRE — Christian Values (Age 9, Kenya)

In CRE we learn that God wants us to be honest. Telling the truth helps people trust us. It shows we love God and our neighbors. Below are simple notes to help you understand why we must always tell the truth.

Memory Verse (easy):

Ephesians 4:25 (simple) — "Tell the truth to each other because we are one body in Christ." 📖

1. What does "telling the truth" mean?

  • Speaking what really happened, not making things up. ✅
  • Not hiding facts when it can help others. 👪
  • Being honest with your friends, family, teachers and God. 🙏

2. Bible teaching

God wants Christians to be truthful. The Bible says lying is wrong and the Lord does not like it. (Proverbs 12:22)

3. Simple Kenyan examples

  • At school: If you broke a class rule, tell the teacher what happened. 🏫
  • At home: If you spilled porridge or broke a cup, tell your parent, not a lie. 🍲
  • In the community: When collecting money for Harambee, record correctly and tell the truth about what you collected. 💰
  • With friends: If you lose someone’s pencil, admit it and say sorry. ✏️

4. Why telling the truth is important

  • People will trust you and want to be your friend. 🤝
  • It honors God because He loves honesty. 🙏
  • It keeps you free from worry and fear of being found out. 😊
  • It helps build a fair and safe school and community. 🏫🏘️

5. What happens when we lie?

  • People stop trusting us. 😟
  • We may get into bigger trouble if the lie is found out. ⚠️
  • Lying can hurt others’ feelings and cause problems. 💔
6. How to always tell the truth — easy tips
  1. Pause before you speak. Think if it is true. 🧠
  2. If you made a mistake, say sorry and tell what happened. 🙇‍♂️
  3. Ask God to help you be brave to say the truth. 🙏
  4. Practice honesty with small things first (pencils, homework) then bigger things. ✏️

7. Classroom activity (5–10 minutes)

True or False — Teacher reads a sentence. Children stand for True ✅ and sit for False ❌.

  • "It is okay to say you did homework if you did not." (False)
  • "If I break my friend’s toy, I should tell them." (True)
  • "God is happy when we lie." (False)

8. Short role-play (2–3 children)

Let one child play a friend who lost a book and another child tells the truth about where it was left. Teacher praises honest children. 👏

9. Prayer (short)

"Dear God, help us to always tell the truth. Give us courage to be honest at home, school and church. Amen." 🙏

10. Teacher's note

Use local stories or news that the children know. Reward honest behaviour with praise and small star stickers. Remind pupils that honesty is a Christian value and helps their relationships grow.

Keep practising telling the truth every day — with God’s help you will become a person people trust. 🌟
