What does "Prohibitions in Islam" mean?
In Islam, things that harm people are called haram (forbidden). This includes using alcohol and drugs that make a person lose their mind or harm their body. Allah wants us to protect our health, mind and good behavior.
Effects of Drug Abuse (Easy to understand)
- Body harm: weak heart, sickness, weight loss or feeling tired all the time. 💔
- Mind problems: confusion, sadness, bad thoughts, trouble learning at school. 🧠
- Bad behavior: lying, stealing, fighting, or breaking family rules. 🚫
- School and future: miss classes, lose chance to get a job, harm the family's income. 🎒📉
- Law and safety: drugs are illegal in Kenya; using them can cause trouble with police. ⚖️
Why does Islam forbid drugs? (Simple reasons)
- Protects the body: our body is an amanah (trust) from Allah — we must care for it.
- Protects the mind: drugs make it hard to remember, learn and do good deeds.
- Builds good character: Islam teaches self-control, honesty and kindness — drugs harm these. 🌱
- Protects family and community: when people avoid drugs, families stay strong and communities grow. 👪🇰🇪
Remedies and Help (How to stay safe and help others)
If someone is using drugs or offered them, these steps help:
- Say "No" firmly and walk away. Use short refusal: "No, thank you." ✋
- Tell a trusted adult (parent, teacher, imam, or elder) right away. 👩🏫👨👩👧
- Seek medical or counselling help — Kenya has health centers and community programs (e.g., school counsellors, community clinics). 🏥
- Make good friends who pray, study and play sports. Keep busy with useful activities like school, sports, and mosque. ⚽📚
- Use religious practices: pray, read Quran, and ask Allah for strength to stay away. 🤲
Abstain to Please Allah & Help the Nation
Choosing not to use drugs is pleasing to Allah because we protect the body and mind. When many people stay healthy and honest, Kenya grows stronger — more children go to school, adults work well, and communities are peaceful. 🇰🇪
Suggested Learning Activities (for class & home)
- Poster making: Draw a poster with the message "Say No to Drugs" and show how drugs harm the body. Use bright colours. 🖍️
- Role-play: In pairs, practice refusing offers of drugs and telling a trusted adult. One child plays peer pressure, the other practices saying no. 🎭
- Write a short pledge: "I will protect my body and say no to drugs." Let pupils sign and display in class. ✍️
- Invite a school counsellor or community health worker to talk (or watch a safe video) about staying healthy. 🗣️
- Group talk: Discuss how staying drug-free helps families and Kenya (jobs, schools, safety). 🇰🇪
