What is an exhibition? 🎨

An exhibition is when you display your art or craft for others to see. It can be at school, a county fair, a market, or a museum. You show your work, talk about it and answer questions.

Learning goals ✅
  • Choose the best piece to show.
  • Make a neat label and display it well.
  • Speak clearly about your work.
  • Keep art safe and tidy during the show.
Materials you may need ✂️
  • Cardboard or frame
  • Glue, tape, scissors (adult help)
  • Markers for labels
  • Table cloth or stand
  • Small light or lamp (if indoors)
Before the exhibition — Prepare your art 🖼️
  1. Pick your best piece. Choose work that is neat and finished.
  2. Clean and fix it. Remove dust, glue loose parts, use tape on edges.
  3. Mount or frame. Put on cardboard or a simple frame so it looks tidy.
  4. Make a clear label. See the label example below.
  5. Pack carefully for travel. Use paper or bubble wrap; adults should help with transport.
How to make a label (small card) 🏷️
Example label (write neatly):
Name: Amina Mwangi
Class: Standard 5
Title: "The Lake at Dusk"
Materials: Watercolours on paper
One sentence: I painted the lake near my village at sunset.
How to display — simple tips 💡
  • Use a clean table or hang pieces at eye level for children.
  • Put a cloth under small crafts so they stand out.
  • Keep labels next to the work, not under it.
  • A small lamp helps in indoor halls. Ask an adult to fix lights safely.
  • Group similar works together (paintings with paintings).
Talking about your work — practice lines 🗣️

Practice a short talk for visitors. Keep it 1–2 minutes:

"Hello, my name is [Your name]. This is called '[Title]'. I used [materials]. I wanted to show [what you show — eg: sunset colours]. I learned [one thing]. Would you like to know how I made it?"

Other tips: smile, face the visitor, speak slowly, and say "thank you" after questions.

Safety and care ⚠️
  • Get help from an adult when using hot glue or cutting.
  • Keep cords and lamps away from water.
  • Do not let visitors touch fragile or wet artwork.
  • Label "Do not touch" if the piece is delicate.
Quick activity ✍️

Write your label and practise your 1-minute talk with a friend or parent. Try speaking clearly three times.

Exhibition checklist ✔️
  • Best piece chosen
  • Label written
  • Work mounted or packed
  • Display cloth/stand ready
  • Practice talk done
After the exhibition — what to do next 🌟
  1. Say thank you to helpers and visitors.
  2. Carefully pack up your work.
  3. Write one thing you learned and one thing to improve next time.
  4. Share your experience with classmates — they can learn from you.
Good luck with your exhibition! Show your creativity and be proud of your work. 🇰🇪
