Guided Writing — GREETINGS AND INTRODUCTION (Mandarin Chinese)
- a) Compose grammatically correct sentences in writing tasks (use correct word order, particles, and question forms).
- b) Write clearly and use correct punctuation and sentence structure so meaning is easy to read (focus on grammatical clarity).
- c) Express enthusiasm and politeness using correct sentence patterns and expressions.
- Basic word order (SVO): Subject + Verb + Object. Example:
中文: 我 学习 汉语。
Pīnyīn: Wǒ xuéxí Hànyǔ.
Eng: I study Chinese. - Use of 是 (shì) for identification: Use 是 to link subject and noun (not normally with adjectives alone).
我是学生。 Wǒ shì xuésheng. — I am a student.
他是老师。 Tā shì lǎoshī. — He is a teacher. - Adjectives with 很 (hěn): To describe feelings or characteristics, use 很 before an adjective (in simple statements).
我很高兴认识你。 Wǒ hěn gāoxìng rènshì nǐ. — I am happy to meet you.
- Possession: 的 (de) joins possessor and thing.
我的名字 / 我 的 名字。 Wǒ de míngzì — my name.
- Questions:
- A confirm question: add 吗 (ma) at the end: 你是老师吗? Nǐ shì lǎoshī ma? — Are you a teacher?
- Information questions use question words: 什么 (shénme), 谁 (shéi), 几/多少 (jǐ/duōshǎo): 你叫什么名字?Nǐ jiào shénme míngzi? — What is your name?
- Follow-up/ne: 你呢?Nǐ ne? — And you?
- Negation: 不 (bù) for habitual/ability, 没 (méi) for past or “do not have.” Example: 我不忙。Wǒ bù máng. — I am not busy.

- Fill the blanks (use correct grammar):
1) 我叫 ______。

5) 我很 ______ (a feeling: 高兴 / 快乐 / 兴奋)。 - Write a short paragraph (4–5 sentences):

Change statements into questions and negatives:
- 你是学生。→ 你是学生吗? (question)
- 我很高兴。→ 我不高兴。 (negation with 不)
- Are sentences in correct order (S + V + O)?
- Is 是 used correctly for identification (not for adjectives alone)?
- Is 的 used for possession (我的名字)?
- Are questions formed correctly with 吗 or question words (什么, 谁)?
- Are adjectives used with 很 when making simple descriptions (我很高兴)?
- Is negation correct: 不 / 没 ?
- Pair introductions: Students write a 4-sentence introduction and read it to a partner. Partner asks one question using 什么 or 呢.
- Class register: Each student writes one sentence about where they are from (use 我来自...). Teacher displays a few correct model sentences for reference.
- Peer editing: Exchange written paragraphs and use the peer-check list to mark grammar corrections (teacher gives final feedback).
