A conjunction is a little word that joins words, phrases or sentences. Conjunctions help us make longer, better sentences. 😊

Main uses of conjunctions
  • To join words: apples and bananas. 🍎🍌
  • To join parts of a sentence: Mama cooks, and papa reads.
  • To show choice: Do you want tea or milk? 🥛☕
  • To show contrast: I wanted to play, but it rained. ☔
  • To show reason or result: He was hungry so he ate. / I slept because I was tired.
Common simple conjunctions

and (adds), but (shows opposite), or (gives a choice), because (gives a reason), so (shows result).

  • I eat chapati and sukuma wiki. 🍽️

  • Do you want ugali or rice? 🍚
  • It was sunny, but the road was wet. ☀️🌧️
