Key vocabulary — كلمات أساسية (body parts)

الجِسم — al-jism

(masculine; general word for body)

الرَّأْس — ar-raʼs

(masc.)

القَلْب — al-qalb

(fem.)

الرِّجْل — ar-rijl

(fem.)

Tip: Remember adjective follows the noun in Arabic (النعت يأتي بعد الاسم). Example: يدٌ قويّة — yaduun qawiyya (a strong hand).

Important Arabic grammar points for writing a poem

Word order: noun + adjective (الاسم ثم النعت)
Example: جسديُّ قويّ — (jismī qawiyy) — my body is strong. The adjective (قويّ) agrees in gender and definiteness with the noun.
Possessive suffixes (ضمائر الملكية)
Use ـي for "my" (مثال: جسدي، يدي، عيني). These attach to the noun: قلبي، رأسي.
Definite article الـ and agreement
When you add الـ (الـ) to make a noun definite, adjectives must also be definite: الجسمُ الجميلُ → الجسمُ الجميلُ (both definite).
Verbs and tense
Poems often use present tense (الفعل المضارع) or simple past (الماضي) in short phrases: أُحبُّ، أركضُ، أنظرُ. For commands use imperative: انظرْ، احمِ. Keep forms simple at age 12.
Rhyme (قافية) and repetition
Choose an end-word sound to repeat at line ends (e.g., end each line with "-ي" as in جسدي، قلبي، يدي). Use repeated words or phrases for rhythm.
Short sentences and fragments
Poems can use sentence fragments (جمل غير كاملة) like "قويّ وقادر" — this is acceptable; focus on clear images and correct grammar for nouns/adjectives/pronouns.

Distinguish poem vs prose — مثالان قصيران

شِعر (Poem) — ملاحظة: أسطر قصيرة، تكرار، قافية

جسديُ دافئٌ
قلبي نبضٌ شجاعٌ
يداي تُعطيانِ حبًّا
وعينايْ تَبْصُرانِ أملًا

ملاحظات: أسطر قصيرة، نهايات مُحكمة، كلمات متكررة ومرئية. يمكن حذف الفعل للحصول على إيقاع أقوى.

نَثْر (Prose) — ملاحظة: جمل كاملة، معلومات واضحة

جسدي مهمّ لأنّه يساعدني على اللعب والدراسة. يدي تساعدني في الكتابة والأكل، وقلبي ينبض بسرعة عندما أركض.

ملاحظات: جمل كاملة وتتابع معلوماتيّ؛ يستخدم علامات الترقيم بشكل تقليدي؛ أقل تركيزًا على القافية أو الإيقاع.

Model poem (نموج) مع ملاحظات نحوية

قصيدة قصيرة: جسدي هديتي

جسديُ هديتيُ الثمينةُ
قلبي نبضٌ، والحياةُ آمنةُ
يدايِ تبنيانِ أحلامي
وعينايْ تُرى دربي بالإيمانِ

ملاحظات نحوية موجزة:

جسديُ: اسم مضاف + ضمير ملكية (ضمير متصل ـي)
الصفة تأتي بعد الاسم: هديتيُ الثمينةُ → "الثمينة" نعت يوافق الاسم في التعريف والجنس.
أفعال مركزة قصيرة: تبنيانِ (مثال على الفعل المضارع مع ضمير مثنى/جمع إذا أردت التوافق).
القافية: الحرف الأخير لكل سطر متقارب (ـنة، ـنة، ـامي، ـان) — لا يلزم التطابق التام، يكفي إيقاع ثابت.

Writing activities — أنشطة للطلاب (age 12)

Vocabulary check: Write 6 body words in Arabic with the correct possessive suffix (e.g., يدي، رأسي، عيني). Make sure noun and suffix are attached correctly.
Fill-in-the-blank poem template (use grammar hints in brackets):

Peer check: Swap poems with a partner. Ask: Are nouns and adjectives matched? Are possessive suffixes correct? Is there a clear rhythm or repeating sound?
