Specific Learning Outcomes

  • Tell two things Jesus did when he was a child (grew, learned, helped family).
  • Show one way Jesus showed love and obeyed his parents.
  • Draw or act out Jesus helping at home or learning at the synagogue.

Short story: Jesus as a child

Jesus was born in Bethlehem and his family lived in Nazareth. As a child, He did things we can copy:

  • He grew stronger and learned about God (the Bible says He grew in wisdom).
  • He helped his family β€” maybe helping Joseph with work like a young helper (imagine simple carpentry or carrying tools).
  • He listened to teachers in the place of worship and asked good questions (the temple story when He was a boy).
  • He was kind and obeyed his parents β€” a good example for children in Kenya and everywhere.
Key idea: Even as a child, Jesus loved God and helped others.

The work of Jesus Christ (early life) β€” simple

πŸ› οΈ Helped the family
He helped Joseph and Mary at home. You can help your family too.
πŸ“– Learned about God
He listened to teachers at the synagogue and grew in wisdom.
πŸ’– Showed love
Jesus was kind to people. We can be kind to friends and neighbours.
πŸ™ Worshiped God
He prayed and went to the place of worship with his family.

Suggested Learning Experiences (Activities)

  1. Role play: Children act out a small scene β€” helping a parent, listening to a teacher, or praying together. Use simple props (broom, cup, picture of a house).
  2. Drawing: Give paper and crayons. Ask children to draw "Jesus helping at home" or "Jesus in the place of worship." Display their drawings in class.
  3. Memory verse (simple): Say together β€” "And Jesus grew in wisdom and in favour with God and people." (Luke 2:52, in simple words). Repeat with actions: grow tall (stretch hands), pray (hands together), smile to others.
  4. Song and movement: Teach a short song about helping and loving (use a familiar tune). Add clapping and simple steps.
  5. Show pictures: Bring a picture of Bethlehem and Nazareth (or show on a chart). Compare to a Kenyan village and a small town children know β€” discuss homes, fields, and families.
  6. Simple craft: Make a paper star (Bethlehem star). Children decorate and take home as a memory of Jesus’ birth and early life.
  7. Short assessment: Ask each child to tell one thing they will do to help their family today. Write or draw their answer.

Short class prayer (teacher-led)

Dear God, thank you for Jesus. Help us to grow like Him β€” learning, loving and helping our families. Amen.

Teacher notes: Use simple Kenyan examples (helping at home, sharing food, going to church). Keep activities short (10–15 minutes each) for young children.
