What is breakfast?

Breakfast is the first meal of the day. It gives you energy for school and play.

Common Kenyan breakfast foods
  • 🍵 Chai (tea) with milk — chai
  • 🥛 Milk — maziwa
  • 🍚 Uji (porridge) — uji wa ufa/mahindi
  • 🍞 Bread (mkate) with jam or margarine
  • 🍩 Mandazi — a sweet fried dough (eat sometimes)
  • 🫓 Chapati — flatbread
  • 🍳 Eggs (mayai) — good protein
  • 🥑 Avocado (parachichi) — healthy fat and vitamins
  • 🍌 Fruit — ndizi (banana), matunda mengine
  • 🍠 Sweet potato (viazi vitamu) — filling and tasty
  • 🥟 Samosa or small snacks (sometimes)

Hygiene tips before and after breakfast
1. Wash your hands
Wet hands, use soap, rub for 20 seconds, rinse and dry.

Brush after breakfast to keep teeth healthy.
