Items Taken During Breakfast (for age 7) — Kenya
Breakfast is the first meal of the day. It gives you energy for school and play.
- 🍵 Chai (tea) with milk — chai
- 🥛 Milk — maziwa
- 🍚 Uji (porridge) — uji wa ufa/mahindi
- 🍞 Bread (mkate) with jam or margarine
- 🍩 Mandazi — a sweet fried dough (eat sometimes)
- 🫓 Chapati — flatbread
- 🍳 Eggs (mayai) — good protein
- 🥑 Avocado (parachichi) — healthy fat and vitamins
- 🍌 Fruit — ndizi (banana), matunda mengine
- 🍠 Sweet potato (viazi vitamu) — filling and tasty
- 🥟 Samosa or small snacks (sometimes)

Try to have a bit from each group for a strong body and a sharp mind.
1. Wash your hands
Wet hands, use soap, rub for 20 seconds, rinse and dry.
2. Use clean plates and cups
Ask a grown-up to wash dishes well with soap.
3. Brush your teeth
Brush after breakfast to keep teeth healthy.

- Eat a little from each food group.
- Drink water or milk.
- Brush your teeth after eating.
Draw your breakfast on a paper. Write names in English and Swahili.
- Example: Banana — Ndizi
- Example: Milk — Maziwa
Teacher tip: Ask learners to show one healthy item they ate today.
A: Milk and fruit ✅
B: Only a sweet mandazi and lots of sugar ❌
C: Bread, egg and a banana ✅
Answers: A and C are healthy choices. B is not healthy every day because of too much sugar.
