Grade 2 Hygiene And Nutrition Personal Hygiene – Use And Care Of Personal Items Notes
Hygiene And Nutrition — Personal Hygiene
Use and Care of Personal Items (Age 7 — Kenya)
What are personal items? 🤲🪥🧴
Personal items are things you use for yourself every day:
- Toothbrush 🪥
- Soap and sponge 🧼
- Towel or handkerchief 🧣
- Comb or hairbrush 🪮
- Clothes and shoes 👕👟
- Water bottle and lunchbox 🍱
Why care for them? 😊
If we keep our things clean and dry, we avoid germs that can make us sick. Clean things last longer and look nicer.
Toothbrush 🪥
- Rinse well after each use.
- Let it dry standing up in the open air — not in a closed cup.
- Do not share with friends — germs travel!
- Replace every 3 months or after being sick.
Soap, sponge & towel 🧼🧣
- Keep soap in a dry dish so it does not stay soggy.
- Wash towels once or twice a week or when very dirty.
- Hang towels in the sun — sunlight helps kill germs.
- Do not share towels with others.
Comb and hairbrush 🪮
- Remove hair after use and wash with soap and water once a week.
- Do not share combs — lice and germs spread easily.
Clothes & shoes 👕👟
- Wear clean clothes each day. Change underwear daily.
- Wash clothes and dry them in the sun — it kills germs.
- Keep shoes in a dry place; let wet shoes dry before wearing.
Handwashing — easy steps 🧼
- Wet hands with clean water.
- Apply soap and rub palms together.
- Rub between fingers and under nails.
- Scrub for about 20 seconds (sing a short song twice).
- Rinse well and dry with a clean towel or let air dry.
Simple rules to remember ✅
- Do not share toothbrushes, towels, combs or hairbrushes.
- Store items in a clean place — a shelf or a small box.
- Wash items often and dry them in the sun when you can.
- If you are sick, your things need extra cleaning or replacing.
Try this — Fun activities 🎲
- Make a checklist for your morning routine: brush, wash face, comb hair, wear clean clothes.
- Count how many times you hang towels in the sun each week — try for 3 times.
- Practice handwashing with a 20-second song — time each other!
Short rhyme to remember
"Brush, wash, dry, and comb — keep my things clean at home!"
Remember!
Clean things keep you healthy. Look after your personal items every day. Ask an adult if you are not sure how to clean something.
