Subtopic: Faith and God's Promises

What is faith?

Faith means trusting God even when we cannot see everything clearly. The Bible says, "Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see" (Hebrews 11:1).

What are God's promises?

God's promises are things He tells us in the Bible that He will do — like protect us, provide for our needs, forgive us, and be with us always. These promises are reliable because God is faithful.

Key Bible verses
  • Hebrews 11:1 — What is faith?
  • Jeremiah 29:11 — God's plans for you
  • Philippians 4:19 — God provides our needs
  • Matthew 28:20 — God is always with us
Quick Swahili words

Faith = Imani
Promise = Ahadi
Trust = Kuamini

Simple examples for Kenyan teens (age 13)
  • School exams: Trust that God helps you study and gives peace before exams (pray, revise, and trust Him).
  • Family farm or small business: God promises to provide — work hard and trust Him for the results.
  • Friends: Trust God when you face peer pressure; He promises to guide you to do what is right.
How to live by God's promises (4 simple steps)
  1. Read the Bible to find promises (ask your teacher or use a youth Bible).
  2. Pray and tell God you trust Him.
  3. Act: obey God's instructions and work with what He gives you.
  4. Share with others and thank God when His promise comes true.
Short activity — Group work (20–25 mins)

Make three short role-plays: one about trusting God at school, one about forgiveness, and one about helping a neighbour. After each, point out the Bible promise shown.

Personal task — Memory verse

Learn Jeremiah 29:11 in English or Swahili. Say it aloud each morning for a week.

Discussion questions for class or home
  • What promise from God comforts you most? Why?
  • Can you think of a time when you trusted God and something good happened?
  • How can our church or youth group help each other hold on to God's promises?
Closing thought & prayer

Living by faith means trusting God's promises even when life is hard. Pray: "Lord, help me to trust your promises and live for you. Amen."

✝️ Teacher tip: Use local stories and simple language to help pupils connect Scripture with everyday life (school, home, village).
