Conserving Light Energy at Home and School
Hi! We will learn about sources of light and how to save light energy. This is easy and fun. It helps our family, our school and our country, Kenya.
What is light? π
Light helps us see. It can be bright like the sun or a lamp. Light makes reading, playing and working easy.
Sources of light β‘οΈ
- Sun (big and free) π β daylight for homes and schools.
- Electric bulbs (lamps) π‘ β use at night.
- Solar lamps βοΈπ β they use sun power stored in batteries.
- Candles or kerosene lamps π―οΈ β used sometimes, but not very safe.
- Torches (flashlights) π¦ β small and good for moving around.
How to save (conserve) light energy π‘β‘οΈπ
- Open curtains in the morning β use the sun to read and play. π
- Turn off lights when you leave the room. Say βLights off!β ππ‘
- Use a small light for one page, not a big light for the whole room. π¦
- Use solar lamps at home if you can β they use sunlight. βοΈπ
- Ask a teacher or parent to replace old bulbs with energy-saving bulbs (LEDs). They use less power. π‘β‘οΈπ
- Donβt leave phones or radios charging for too long. Unplug when full. π
At school π«
- Use windows and sit near them for reading.
- Turn off classroom lights during break time.
- Help remind friends to switch off lights.
At home π
- Play outside while it is bright.
- Ask grown-ups to use solar lamps or LEDs.
- Have a βlights offβ game β who can remember first?
Fun Activity β Sun Reading πβοΈ
1. In the morning, open curtains. Place your book near the window.
2. Read with sunlight β no lamp needed!
3. Say how many minutes you read using the sun.
Safety tip
Always ask an adult before using candles or kerosene lamps. Solar and LED are safer.
