What are plants?
Plants are living things. They grow in soil and use sunlight and water to live. Plants can be small like grass or big like a mango tree (embe). πΏπ³
Parts of a plant
- Roots (mizizi) β hold the plant and drink water from the soil.
- Stem (shina) β carries water up to the leaves and flowers.
- Leaves (ua) β make food for the plant using sunlight.
- Flower (ua) and Fruit (matunda) β make seeds and food like mangoes.
Why are plants important?
Plants help us and animals. They:
- Give us oxygen to breathe. π¬οΈ
- Give food: maize (mahindi), tea (chai), mango (embe), vegetables. π½π΅π₯
- Give shade and cool places to sit. βοΈ
- Help soil stay strong and stop floods and erosion (roots hold soil). π§οΈβ‘οΈπ±
- Give homes for birds and animals. π¦π¦

How to care for plants (easy steps)
- Water them in the morning. π§
- Give them sunlight but not too much heat. βοΈ
- Plant seeds in good soil. πͺ΄
- Don't cut many trees. Ask an adult first. βοΈβ
- Keep the area clean from rubbish. ποΈ
Fun activities for kids (age 6)
- Plant a bean in a paper cup. Watch it grow each day. π±
- Go on a walk and find 3 different leaves. Draw them. π
- Visit a mango tree and count the fruits with a teacher. π₯
- Help water a small plant at home. Ask an adult for help. π§
