Pronouns — Examples

A pronoun is a small word we use instead of a name. Here are easy examples for you to read and say.

Subject Pronouns (who does the action)

  • I 👦 — I run. (I am Juma.)
  • You 👧 — You play. (You are Asha.)
  • He 👦 — He sings. (He is the boy.)
  • She 👧 — She reads. (She is the girl.)
  • It 🐶 — It barks. (It is the dog.)
  • We 👦👧 — We jump. (We are friends at school.)
  • They 👦👧 — They clap. (They are pupils.)

Object Pronouns (who gets the action)

  • me — Give me the ball. ⚽
  • you — I see you. 👀
  • him — I help him. 🤝
  • her — I call her. 📣
  • it — I feed it. 🍎 (for the dog)
  • us — The teacher sees us. 🏫
  • them — I watch them. 👀

Possessive Words (shows who owns something)

Use these to show something belongs to someone:

  • my — This is my book. 📘
  • your — That is your hat. 🎩
  • his — That is his ball. ⚽
  • her — This is her doll. 🪆
  • its — The cat licks its paw. 🐱
  • our — Our school is big. 🏫
  • their — Their mangoes are sweet. 🥭
