1. What the Bible teaches
- Genesis 1:26β28 β People are made to "rule" over animals. This means to care for them, not to harm them.
- Kindness matters: The Bible shows that mercy and responsible care for animals are part of a good life.
2. What responsibility means
Being responsible means doing what is right to keep animals, fish and birds healthy and safe. It includes:
- Feeding them properly and giving clean water.
- Keeping them clean and free from disease.
- Not hurting or wasting them.
- Protecting their homes (habitats).
- Following local rules and laws about wildlife and fishing.
3. Kenyan examples you can understand
- Farm animals (cows, goats, chickens): give enough food and shelter; take sick animals to a vet.
- Fish in lakes and rivers: follow fishing seasons, use allowed nets, and avoid catching baby fish.
- Birds (both wild and pets): donβt destroy nests; report injured birds to a vet or local wildlife officers.
- Organisations: Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) helps protect wildlife; local County Fisheries and community groups manage fishing practices.
4. Practical ways you can care (at home & school)
- Make a simple feeding schedule for farm animals and help your family follow it.
- Keep animal shelters clean to avoid disease.
- Never tease, hurt, or abandon animals.
- If you fish: use allowed methods, throw back small fish, and keep fishing areas clean.
- Set up a bird feeder or plant native trees to give birds food and shelter.
- Join or start a school club that helps clean riverbanks, plant trees, or care for school chickens.
Simple checklist (tick when done)
- β‘ Gave animals clean water today
- β‘ Checked the animal shelter is clean
- β‘ Returned small fish back to the water
- β‘ Did not disturb any bird nest
- β‘ Picked up litter near water sources
5. Laws & community rules in Kenya (short)
- KWS protects wild animals and birds β don't keep wild animals as pets or hunt them illegally.
- Fisheries regulations protect fish stocks β follow closed seasons and size limits.
- Local county governments and community groups help manage beaches, lakes and riverbanks. Cooperate with them.
6. Short activities (for class or at home)
- Draw a poster: "Care for God's Creatures" and show 3 ways your family can help animals.
- Group project: Interview a local farmer or fisher about how they care for animals/fish.
- Nature walk: list birds, insects and animals you see; think about how to protect their homes.
7. Reflection & memory verse
Think: How did God make animals and birds? What is one promise you can keep this week to care for them?
Memory verse: "The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it." (Genesis 2:15)
8. Quick quiz (write answers)
- What does "responsibility" mean when caring for animals?
- Name two ways you can protect fish in a lake.
- What should you do if you find an injured bird?
Final thought: Caring for animals, fish and birds is part of looking after God's creation. Small actions at home, in school, and in the community help keep nature healthy for everyone in Kenya.
