Grade 7 CRE CREATION – USE AND MISUSE OF NATURAL RESOURCES Notes
CRE: Creation — Use and Misuse of Natural Resources
These are short, easy notes for class. We learn that God created everything and gave humans the job of caring for creation. Natural resources are gifts from God — we must use them well.
- Things from nature that people use: water, soil, trees, animals, air, minerals, sunlight.
- Examples in Kenya: Rivers (Tana), Lakes (Victoria), forests (Mau, Kakamega), Mt Kenya, wildlife (elephants, giraffes), soil for farming.
- Planting trees for shade and soil protection 🌳
- Using rainwater for watering gardens 💧
- Sustainable farming — crop rotation and terracing 🌾
- National parks protect wildlife and provide jobs 🐘
- Deforestation (cutting too many trees) — causes erosion and floods 🌲❌
- Charcoal burning and illegal logging — loss of forests
- Polluting rivers and lakes with rubbish and chemicals 🗑️
- Poaching and overfishing — wildlife and fish numbers fall 🎣❌
- Soil erosion — farms lose good soil and yields drop.
- Less clean water — sickness (waterborne diseases).
- Loss of animals and plants — fewer tourists and jobs.
- Climate change — unpredictable rains, droughts and floods.
God made everything and owns it all. Humans are helpers or stewards. We must care for God’s creation.
Memory verse: Genesis 2:15 — "The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it."
- Plant a tree in school or at home (tree planting clubs, churches) 🌱
- Reduce, Reuse, Recycle — separate plastics, paper, and organic waste ♻️
- Save water: close taps, use buckets for washing, catch rainwater.
- Avoid littering — organise clean-up days (Harambee!).
- Use fuel or energy wisely — switch off lights, use energy-saving lamps.
- Report illegal logging, poaching, or dumping to teachers, chiefs or NEMA.
Role play: "Village meeting" — some pupils pretend to be farmers, chiefs, loggers, church leaders. Discuss a river being polluted. Decide good solutions and how to help.
Make a waste bin at home with three labels: Recycle, Compost, Trash. Count how much you recycle in a week.
- Why did God give humans the job of caring for creation?
- Name three ways people misuse natural resources in Kenya.
- What can your church or school do to protect a nearby forest or river?
- Give two examples of renewable resources.
- Mention one effect of deforestation.
- Write Genesis 2:15 in your own words.
Keep these notes for revision. Remember: caring for nature is part of our faith — loving God means protecting what He made.
