Who was Moses? πΉ
Moses was a leader chosen by God to free the Israelites from slavery in Egypt. He was born a Hebrew, saved from the river Nile by Pharaohβs daughter, and grew up in the palace. Later God called him from a burning bush (Exodus 3) to lead his people out of Egypt.
Short life timeline (easy) π
- Baby Moses put in a basket on the Nile β saved by Pharaohβs daughter.
- Grew up in Pharaohβs palace β later fled to Midian.
- God spoke to him at the burning bush β Moses became leader.
- Led Israelites out of Egypt β Ten Plagues and the Passover.
- Crossed the Red Sea and travelled in the desert for 40 years.
- Received the Ten Commandments on Mount Sinai.
Leadership qualities of Moses (with simple examples) β¨
- Obedient to God: Moses listened to God even when it was hard (Exodus 3β4). Example: obeying parents and teachers when they give good guidance.
- Humble: Moses was not proud. He cared for others more than himself (Numbers 12:3). Example: letting others speak and helping without showing off.
- Brave and courageous: He stood up to Pharaoh to free Godβs people. Example: standing up for a friend being bullied at school.
- Patient and persistent: He led the people for many years despite complaints. Example: finishing school projects even when hard.
- Good communicator: Moses prayed, taught Godβs laws, and argued for his people. Example: speaking clearly in class or church meetings.
- Delegated tasks: He listened to advice from his father-in-law Jethro and shared work with others. Example: during a Harambee, letting others lead different tasks.
- Intercessor (prayerful): He prayed for the people when they sinned. Example: praying for classmates or family members.
Problems Moses faced (and how he handled them) βοΈ
- People complained and disobeyed β Moses prayed and reminded them of Godβs promises.
- Enemies and dangers β Moses trusted God and followed Godβs instructions (e.g., crossing the Red Sea).
- Tiredness from leading many people β he accepted help after Jethroβs advice (Exodus 18).
Lessons for Kenyan children (ages 12) π°πͺ
- Listen to God and elders: Like Moses, learn to hear good advice from parents and teachers.
- Stand for justice: If you see someone treated unfairly, speak up kindly and safely.
- Work together: Moses shared the load β in class or community projects, cooperate with others.
- Be humble: Help without boasting β this wins respect.
- Pray and trust God: When things are hard, pray and trust God to guide you.
- Be patient: Big problems take time to solve β keep trying.
Classroom activities (fun and quick) π²
- Role play: Act out the burning bush call or Moses speaking to Pharaoh. Use simple props (a stick, a cloth).
- Group discussion: Talk about a time you helped someone. What did you learn?
- Draw and tell: Draw Moses and the Red Sea. Write one lesson you learned from his life.
- Harambee task: In groups, plan a small help project for school (clean-up, plant trees). Practice delegation like Moses did.
Quiz (5 short questions) βοΈ
- Who saved baby Moses from the Nile?
- Where did God speak to Moses from (what did Moses see)?
- Name one leadership quality Moses had.
- Why did Moses need help from Jethro?
- What important papers did Moses bring down from Mount Sinai?
Prayer suggestion: "Lord, help me be brave, humble and kind like Moses. Teach me to listen to you and help others." Amen.
Note for teachers: Use local examples (school leaders, church youth leaders, community Harambee) to make the lessons real for Kenyan pupils.
