Sources of Food (Kenya) 🍽️

For children age 6 β€” Simple and clean

Where does our food come from? 🌾

  • Farm / Shamba 🏑 β€” maize (ugali), vegetables like sukuma wiki, and beans (maharagwe).
  • Home garden β€” small vegetables and fruits near the house.
  • Market / Soko πŸ›’ β€” fruits like mango and bananas; fresh vegetables.
  • Shop / Duka β€” packaged foods and little treats.
  • Animals β€” milk (maziwa) and eggs. (Only from clean animals and clean people!) πŸ„πŸ₯š

Why pick good (safe) food? πŸ€”

Safe food keeps us healthy. Dirty food can make our tummies hurt. Always choose clean and fresh food.

Hygiene tips β€” Easy to remember πŸ‘

  • Wash hands with soap and water before eating. πŸ§ΌπŸ‘
  • Wash fruits and vegetables with clean water. πŸŽπŸ’§
  • Eat food that is cooked well and hot when it should be. πŸ”₯
  • Keep food covered so flies and dust do not touch it. πŸͺ°βž‘️🚫
  • Store milk and cooked food in a clean place. If milk smells bad, throw it away. πŸ₯›πŸš«
  • Do not eat food from the ground. Ask an adult. πŸ™…β€β™‚οΈπŸž
  • Help keep the kitchen and dishes clean after meals. 🧽🍽️
