Why We Eat Food
Hello! We will learn why we eat food and how to keep it clean and safe. π
What is food?
Food is what we eat. It comes from plants and animals. In Kenya, some foods are:
- Ugali π½οΈ
- Sukuma wiki (green vegetables) π₯¬
- Beans and maize π½
- Samaki (fish) π and nyama (meat) π
- Maziwa (milk) π₯ and matunda (fruits) like ndizi (bananas) π, matunda ya embe (mango) π₯
Why do we eat? (Very simple!)
To grow tall π±
Food gives us things our body needs to grow.
To have energy β‘
Food gives us energy to play and learn.
To stay healthy β€οΈ
Good food keeps our body strong to fight sickness.
To heal wounds π©Ή
Food helps our cuts and bruises get better.
Hygiene: Keep food clean and safe
If food is not clean, tiny germs can make us sick. Follow these easy steps:
- Wash your hands with soap and water before eating. π§Όπ€²
- Wash fruits and vegetables with clean water. π§π
- Cook food well (hot) so germs are killed. π₯π²
- Keep food covered so flies canβt touch it. πͺ°β‘οΈβ
- Use clean plates and cups. Wash them after use. π§½π½οΈ
- Store milk and perishable food in a cool place. π₯βοΈ
How to tell if food is safe
Safe food usually smells normal, looks fresh, and was kept in a clean place.
