What is Friendship?

Friendship is when two people care for each other, help each other, and enjoy spending time together. A Christian friend follows Jesus by showing love, honesty and kindness.

How to Make Friends (Easy Steps)

  1. Smile and say hello — a small chance to start a friendship 🙂
  2. Ask simple questions: "What is your name?", "Where do you live?", "Do you like football?"
  3. Share something about yourself — maybe your favourite game or school subject.
  4. Invite them to play or sit with you during break or Sunday school.
  5. Be kind and keep secrets that should be kept (unless someone is hurt — then tell a trusted adult).

Qualities of a Good Friend

Kind

Shows love and helps others.

Honest

Tells the truth in a loving way.

Trusting

You can count on them.

Forgiving

Forgives small mistakes and says sorry when wrong.

Kenyan Examples

  • Making friends in class at school — share your biro or exercise book when someone forgets.
  • Neighbourhood: invite a new child in the estate to play football or hide-and-seek.
  • Church: help someone find a seat in Sunday service or join the Sunday school group.
  • When a family moves to a new town, show them around — that is a Christian welcome.

If Friends Have a Problem

  1. Calm down and listen to what happened.
  2. Say how you feel using kind words: "I felt sad when..."
  3. Say sorry if you did something wrong.
  4. Ask an elder (teacher, parent or church leader) to help if you cannot solve it.

Class Activities (Fun & Simple)

  • Role Play (5–10 mins): Pair up. One child pretends to be new in school; the other practices greeting, asking questions and inviting them to play.
  • Memory Verse Game: Put Proverbs 17:17 on cards, mix words, and let teams put them in order.
  • Friendship Tree: On a paper tree, write one good thing about your friend and paste it on the branches.
Memory Verse

"A friend loves at all times." — Proverbs 17:17
