The Temptations of Jesus Christ

Subject: Christian Religious Education • Topic: The Life of Jesus Christ • Subtopic: The Temptations of Jesus Christ
For: Learners (age 11) — Kenya

Short Summary

After His baptism, Jesus went into the wilderness for 40 days. He fasted and was tempted by Satan. There were three main temptations. Jesus used God’s Word to answer each temptation and showed us how to trust God.

The Story (easy version)

Jesus was led by the Holy Spirit into the wilderness. He did not eat for forty days. Satan came and tried to make Jesus sin. Jesus did not give in. He answered Satan with verses from the Bible.

The Three Temptations

  1. 🍞 Turn stones into bread — Temptation of hunger and using power for self only.
  2. 🪨🕊️ Jump from the temple and ask angels to save Him — Temptation to show off and demand signs.
  3. 👑😈 Worship Satan for all the kingdoms — Temptation of power and wealth by wrong means.

How Jesus Answered

  • With Scripture: Jesus quoted the Bible (Deuteronomy verses) to resist every temptation.
  • He obeyed God, not the devil.
  • He showed that God’s ways are more important than quick fixes or power.

Bible References

Read: Matthew 4:1–11 and Luke 4:1–13 (you can ask your teacher or parent to read these with you).

Why this matters to you (Kenya — age 11)

  • Temptations come in many forms: wanting sweets, cheating in exams, showing off, or doing wrong for money.
  • Like Jesus, you can choose God’s way — obey parents, teachers and God’s Word.
  • Use prayer and the Bible when you face hard choices.
Memory Verse

"Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God." — Matthew 4:4

Practical Ways to Resist Temptation

  1. Pray when you feel tempted — ask God for strength. 🙏
  2. Learn short Bible verses and repeat them — like Jesus did.
  3. Choose good friends who help you do the right thing.
  4. Avoid places and situations that lead to wrong choices.
  5. Talk to parents, teachers or your Sunday school teacher if you are struggling.

Class Activity (simple)

Role play in groups (3–4 students):

  • One student plays Jesus, one plays Satan, others are friends or helpers.
  • Act out one temptation and show how to answer with a Bible verse or prayer.
  • Discuss how the situation could happen in school or at home and what to do.
