Grade 6 Christian Religious Education Creation – God's Rest Notes
Christian Religious Education — Creation
Subtopic: God's Rest (for age 11)
What are these notes for?
Short and simple ideas about why God rested on the seventh day, what this means for us, and how Kenyan children can keep the spirit of rest.
Bible Verse (Memory)
"By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work. Then God blessed the seventh day and made it holy." — Genesis 2:2-3 (simple words)
What does "God's Rest" mean?
- After creating everything, God stopped working on the seventh day. He rested.
- God's rest shows that work has a proper time, and so does rest.
- God also "made the day holy" — the day was set apart for something special: rest and worship.
Why did God rest? (Simple points)
- To show that creation was complete.
- To show us that rest is part of God’s plan for life.
- To show that people should take time to be near God and care for each other, not only work.
What this teaches Kenyan children
- Rest is important: it keeps your body and mind healthy (sleep, relax, enjoy).
- Sabbath or Sunday is a good time for prayer, church, and spending time with family.
- Respect nature and animals — God rested after making them, so we care for them too.
- Rest can mean helping your family quietly, not always doing hard work.
How to practice God's rest (age 11)
- Attend church or Sunday school with your family.
- Pray or read a short Bible story with a parent or friend.
- Sleep well and avoid too much screen time on the rest day.
- Play quietly with siblings or friends — games that let you enjoy time together.
- Help at home in simple ways (set the table, fetch water) without tiring yourself out.
Quick Activity — Draw Your Rest Day
Take a paper and draw what you do on a Sunday (or your rest day). Show one thing for worship, one for family, and one for play.
Try This: Memory Verse Game
Cover some words from Genesis 2:2-3. Ask a friend to guess the missing words. Help each other until you can say the whole verse from memory.
Review Questions
- 1. On which day did God rest?
- 2. Name one thing we can do on our rest day to honour God.
- 3. Why is rest important for our bodies?
- 4. How can you show care for creation on your rest day?
- 5. Tell a short example from your family of how you rest on Sundays.
Short Prayer
Dear God, thank you for creating the world and for showing us how to rest. Help us to use our rest day to be close to you, care for our family and creation, and to grow stronger. Amen.
