Interpersonal Relationships Among Christians

The Church — Christian Religious Education (Age 11, Kenya)

These notes help you learn how Christians relate to one another in the church. We use simple Bible teachings and Kenyan examples so you can see how to live well with others.

Learning Goals

  • Know what good relationships look like in the church.
  • Learn Christian values: love, respect, forgiveness, sharing.
  • See how Christians help each other in Kenya (e.g., harambee, visiting the sick).
  • Practice simple ways to solve small problems among friends.

Key Bible Ideas (Simple)

  • Love one another — Jesus told us to love others as He loves us. ❤️ (John 13:34)
  • Be kind and help each other — share what you have. 🤝 (Acts 2:44–45)
  • Everyone belongs — the church is like a family where all parts matter. 👥 (1 Corinthians 12:12–27)
  • Forgive — say sorry and forgive so friendships can grow. ✋➡️🤝 (Ephesians 4:32)

What Good Relationships Look Like

  • Talking kindly and listening to each other. 🗣️👂
  • Helping neighbours and church members (e.g., bringing food to a sick person). 🍲
  • Sharing during Sunday school and at home. 📚✋
  • Working together in the church — choir, cleaning, youth group activities. ⛪🎶

Kenyan Examples

  • Harambee: Church members raise money for a family in need or to repair the church roof.
  • Visiting the sick at home or at the hospital with food and prayer.
  • Youth group helps younger children with homework or organises sport after Sunday school.
  • Church members support school fees for a child who has no money.

How to Solve Small Problems (Simple Steps)

  1. Calm down and breathe. ✨
  2. Listen to the other person. Ask, "How do you feel?" 👂
  3. Say how you feel without blaming. Use "I" sentences: "I felt sad when..."
  4. Say sorry if you hurt someone. Forgive when someone says sorry. 🙏
  5. Ask a teacher, parent, or church leader for help if you cannot agree. 👩‍🏫👨‍👩‍👧

Short Role-Play Activity (Class)

In groups of three: A) one person is upset because someone took their chair at church, B) one person says sorry, C) a helper is the teacher or youth leader. Practice the steps to solve the problem.

Memory Verse

"A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another." — John 13:34

Glossary (Simple)

  • Harambee — a tradition where people come together to help someone (fundraising/helping).
  • Forgive — to stop being angry with someone who hurt you.
  • Fellowship — spending time together as friends in church.

Questions to Think About (for class or at home)

  • How can you show love to someone in your class this week?
  • Have you ever helped with a harambee or a church activity? What did you do?
  • Who can you ask for help if you have a problem with a friend?

Draw or Colour

Draw a picture of your church family helping someone (you can show people bringing food, cleaning, or praying). Use colours and write one sentence: "We love one another."

⛪🤝❤️

Teacher's tip: Use local examples (church committees, choir, youth groups) and encourage children to act out the steps to forgive and help. Keep lessons active and kind.
