Grade 6 Christian Religious Education The Church – Church Unity Notes
Church Unity ⛪🤝
Subject: Christian Religious Education — Topic: The Church
Subtopic: Church Unity (for ages 11 — Kenya)
Church unity means Christians coming together as one family under Jesus Christ. Unity does not mean everyone becomes the same. It means loving one another, helping each other, and working together in worship and service. In Kenya, Christians from different churches (Catholic, Anglican, Pentecostal, Presbyterian, and others) can still be united to serve God and help our communities.
Unity in the church = many believers, one body (working, praying and loving together).
Why is Church Unity important?
- Jesus prayed that all believers would be one (John 17:21).
- Unity shows love to the world and helps people believe (people see Christians loving each other).
- We can do more to help the community when we work together — like feeding the hungry, helping during floods, and visiting the sick.
- Unity helps us learn from each other and grow stronger in faith.
Short Bible verses to remember
John 17:21 (easy): "May all of them be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you."
1 Corinthians 12:12 (easy): "The body is one, though it has many parts."
How we show unity at church (simple actions)
- Pray together with other churches for important events (e.g., exam success, peace, floods).
- Sing and worship together during special days.
- Join community service projects like feeding the poor or cleaning the neighbourhood.
- Be kind and respect different church traditions and leaders.
Examples from Kenya
Many Kenyan churches meet for national prayer, help during floods, and run food banks together. Groups like the National Council of Churches of Kenya (NCCK) bring leaders from different churches to help the country. These are good examples of church unity in action.
Class activity (10–15 minutes)
1) Draw many small circles (each one a church) on a paper. Colour them differently and write a good thing each church can do (e.g., care for the sick). Then draw a big circle that joins them all and write "One Body in Christ" inside. 2) Role-play: Plan a community clean-up with friends from another church.

Remember: Different colours (churches) make a beautiful picture when they come together. We stay one because Jesus is our head. ❤️
