CRE Notes — Creation

Subtopic: Adam and Eve (for Class — Age 8)

Simple, clear notes to help young learners in Kenya understand the story of Adam and Eve and the lessons we learn from it.

Learning Goals

  • Know who Adam and Eve were and where they lived (Garden of Eden 🌳).
  • Understand what happened when they disobeyed God.
  • Learn the important lessons: obedience, temptation, consequences and God's love.

Short Story (simple)

God made the first man and called him Adam. Then God made the first woman and called her Eve. God placed them in a beautiful garden called the Garden of Eden 🌳🌺. They could eat from any tree except one tree that God told them not to eat from — the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

A crafty snake 🐍 tempted Eve to eat the fruit from the tree. Eve ate it and gave some to Adam. They disobeyed God. Because of that, they had to leave the garden and live outside the Garden of Eden. Even after they disobeyed, God still cared for them.

Key Characters

  • God (Mungu) — Creator and caretaker.
  • Adam — the first man.
  • Eve — the first woman.
  • Snake (serpent) — brought temptation.

Simple Lessons for Children

  • Obeying God keeps us safe — God gave rules to protect people.
  • Temptation can make us do wrong things. We should ask God for help and say “no” to bad choices.
  • Every action has consequences — when we disobey, there are results to face.
  • God still loves us even when we make mistakes. We should say sorry and learn from our mistakes.

Memory Verse (easy)

"God created man in his own image." — Genesis 1:27 (short form)

(Repeat this with the class and make them say it together.)

Class Activities (fun and simple)

  • Drawing: Ask learners to draw the Garden of Eden — trees, animals and Adam & Eve. Use crayons or coloured pencils.
  • Role-play: Let some children act as God, Adam, Eve and the snake. Practice saying “no” to temptation politely.
  • Craft: Make a paper apple 🍎 (for the “forbidden fruit”) and write one rule at the back that helps people live well.
  • Planting: Plant seeds in a small cup to show God's care for life (connect to creation and looking after nature in Kenya).

Questions for the Learners

  1. Who made Adam and Eve?
  2. Where did Adam and Eve live?
  3. What did God tell them not to do?
  4. Who tempted Eve?
  5. What should we do when we are tempted to do wrong?

Teacher Tips (short)

  • Use simple language and ask learners to repeat important words (e.g., Eden, obey, temptation).
  • Relate lessons to everyday life in Kenya: obeying parents, saying no to bad choices, helping others.
  • Give each child a short activity (drawing or craft) to keep them involved.

Words in Kiswahili (use in class)

Adam — Adamu, Eve — Hawa, God — Mungu, Garden of Eden — Bustani ya Edeni, Obey — watii, Temptation — vishawishi.

Closing Prayer (short)

"Dear God, thank you for making us. Help us to obey you, to say no to wrong things and to love others. Amen."
