CRE Notes for Class (Age 8) — Topic: The Early Life of Jesus Christ

Subtopic: Easter ✝️🐣

Learning goals:
  • Know what Easter is and why Christians celebrate it.
  • Understand simply how Easter connects to the life of Jesus.
  • Learn one Bible verse and do a short class activity.

Short and simple explanation

Easter is the special time when Christians remember that Jesus, who was born and grew up in Nazareth, died on a cross and came back to life. This coming back to life is called the resurrection. Easter shows that Jesus is alive and that God loves everyone.

Key words
  • Palm Sunday 🌿 — people welcomed Jesus to Jerusalem.
  • Good Friday ✝️ — the day Jesus died on the cross.
  • Easter Sunday 🌅 — the day Jesus rose from the dead.
Why it matters

Easter tells us that God has power over death and that Jesus brings hope and new life. Christians feel happy and thankful at Easter.

How Easter connects to Jesus' early life

Jesus was born (Christmas) and grew up as a child (we learn about his early life). Later, when he was an adult, the events of Good Friday and Easter happened. Even though Easter is after his childhood, it is part of Jesus’ whole life story — from birth, to teaching people, to dying and rising again.

How Christians in Kenya celebrate Easter

  • People go to church for special services and songs 🎶.
  • Families meet for a meal and children may play games or do crafts.
  • Some churches have Easter plays that tell the story of Jesus.

Memory verse (simple)

"He is not here; he has risen!" — Luke 24:6 (simple English)

Class activity (5–10 minutes)

  1. Draw two pictures: one of baby Jesus in a manger (birth) and one of an empty cross with sunshine (Easter).
  2. Write one sentence under each picture: "Jesus was born." and "Jesus rose on Easter."

Questions for review

  • What is Easter? (A time to remember Jesus rising from the dead)
  • What happened on Good Friday? (Jesus died on the cross)
  • Why do Christians celebrate Easter? (Because Jesus rose and gives hope)
Short prayer (optional):

Thank you, God, for Jesus. Thank you that he loves us and gives us hope. Amen.

Note for teachers: Keep explanations short and use pictures or a simple story. Encourage respect for all classmates and their families.
