The Story (short and simple)

There was a man named Jairus. He loved his daughter very much. She was very sick. Jairus went to Jesus and asked Him to help. Jesus agreed and went with Jairus. Many people followed them.

On the way, a woman who had been sick for a long time touched Jesus’ clothes. Jesus stopped to help her and she was healed. While Jesus was still talking, people came and said Jairus’ daughter had died. Jairus was sad and the people said, "There is no need to trouble the teacher." But Jesus said, "Don’t be afraid. Have faith."

Jesus went into the house, took the little girl by the hand and said, "Talitha koum" (which means "Little girl, I say to you — get up"). The girl woke up and walked! Everyone was amazed and very happy. 🙏👧✨

Key words (easy)

  • Jairus — the girl’s father (a leader in the synagogue)
  • Faith — believing Jesus can help
  • Heal / miracle — when God makes something right or healthy

What we learn

  • Jesus cares about children and families.
  • Faith in Jesus can bring hope, even in hard times.
  • We must be kind and help people who are sad or sick.

Memory verse (short)

"Don’t be afraid. Just believe." — Mark 5:36

Activity ideas (fun and simple)

  1. Role-play: One child is Jairus, one is Jesus, others are people in the house. Practice saying kind words and "Talitha koum".
  2. Drawing: Draw the scene of Jesus taking the little girl’s hand. Colour the picture with bright colours.
  3. Make a "Get Well" card: Children write nice messages to someone who is sick in their neighbourhood or church.

Questions for class discussion (easy)

  • How do you think Jairus felt when his daughter was sick?
  • Why did Jesus stop to help the woman on the way?
  • What can you do to help a friend who is sad?

Short prayer (children can say together)

Dear Jesus, thank you for caring for us. Help us to believe and to be kind to others. Amen. ✝️🙏

Teacher notes (Kenyan context)

  • Encourage children to be helpful at home (fetch water, look after younger siblings) as a way of showing love.
  • Keep language simple and allow children to act out the story in Kiswahili or English if preferred.
