The Bible Story

CRE – Christian Religious Education (for age 8, Kenya)

What is the Bible?

The Bible is God’s special book. It tells true stories about God, people and Jesus. Christians read the Bible to learn how to love God and other people.

Two big parts

  • Old Testament – stories before Jesus (e.g., Creation, Noah, Moses, David).
  • New Testament – stories about Jesus and His followers (birth, miracles, parables, Easter).

Short Bible stories to know

Creation

God made the world in six days and rested on the seventh. Everything He made was good.

Noah's Ark

God asked Noah to build an ark to save his family and many animals from a big flood.

Moses

God used Moses to lead the Israelites out of Egypt and through the Red Sea to freedom.

David and Goliath

Young David trusted God and defeated the giant Goliath with a sling and a stone.

Birth of Jesus

Jesus was born in Bethlehem. Christians celebrate His birth at Christmas.

Good Samaritan

Jesus taught that helping people near us (our neighbours) is very important, even if they are different from us.

Resurrection

Jesus died on the cross and came back to life. This gives hope to Christians everywhere.

Why these stories matter

  • They teach us about God’s love and care.
  • They show how to be kind, brave and honest.
  • They help us pray and trust God when we are afraid.

Memory verse (easy)

"Love your neighbour as yourself." — Mark 12:31
Think: Who is your neighbour at home, school or in our Kenyan village?

How to use the Bible

  1. Read a small story in Sunday school or at home with a parent.
  2. Talk about what the story teaches you.
  3. Pray to say “Thank you” and ask God to help you.
  4. Do a kind thing for someone (share, help, or encourage).

Fun activities

  • Draw your favourite Bible story and write one sentence about it.
  • Act out a story with friends in Sunday school (use simple costumes).
  • Memorise the memory verse and teach it to a friend or sibling.
  • Make a “kindness list” for the week (e.g., help at home, share a snack).

Quick questions

1. Who made the world?
2. Who helped the Israelites leave Egypt?
3. What did David use against Goliath?
4. Name one thing Jesus taught.

Short prayer to end

Dear God, thank you for the Bible and your love. Help us to be kind and brave like the people in the stories. Amen.
Note for teachers/parents: Use simple language, short readings and role-play. Connect lessons to children's life in Kenya — school, family and village neighbours.
