CRE Notes for Class: The Little Boy with Five Loaves and Two Fish

Topic: The Early Life of Jesus Christ — Subtopic: The Little Boy With Five Loaves And Two Fish
For Kenyan children (age 8)

1. Short Story (easy to read)

One day Jesus went to a place by the sea to teach people. A big crowd of children and grown-ups followed him. The people were hungry. A small boy had five loaves of bread and two fish. He gave them to Jesus. Jesus thanked God and broke the bread and fish. He gave them to his friends the disciples. Everyone ate and there was plenty left over. This was a miracle. It showed that Jesus cares and God can provide for people.

2. Big Ideas (what to remember)

  • Jesus cares: He saw people who were hungry and helped them.
  • Sharing is powerful: The little boy shared his food even though it was a small amount.
  • God provides: With Jesus' blessing, a small thing became enough for many people.
  • We can help: When we share, God can use what we give to bless others.

3. Memory Verse (learn it!)

"They all ate and were satisfied." — John 6:12 (or Mark 6:41–42)

4. New Words (simple meanings)

  • Miracle: Something special God does that people cannot easily explain.
  • Disciple: A friend of Jesus who learns from him and helps him.
  • Provide: To give what is needed (food, help, care).

5. Questions to ask the children

  1. Who gave the five loaves and two fish?
  2. What did Jesus do before he gave the food to the people?
  3. How did people feel when their stomachs were full?
  4. Can you think of a time you shared something? How did it make you feel?

6. Simple Activities (class or at home)

  • Role play: One child is Jesus, one is the little boy, others are the crowd. Use paper loaves and fish.
  • Drawing: Draw the crowd and the boy sharing food. Colour the loaves and fish.
  • Counting game: Count 5 loaves and 2 fish — practise numbers in English and Kiswahili (e.g. "tano" and "mbili").
  • Share box: Make a box at home or school for food (non-perishables) to share with a family in need.

7. Craft: Make paper loaves and fish

You need paper, scissors, crayons and glue. Cut 5 ovals for loaves and 2 fish shapes. Colour them, then stick on a big sheet and write "We share like the little boy." Good for Sunday school or class display.

8. Short Prayer (teach children to pray)

Dear Jesus, thank you for caring for us. Help us to share what we have. Teach us to trust you. Amen.

9. For the Teacher / Parent

- Tell the story slowly and use pictures. Ask children questions as you go.
- Link the story to life in Kenya: fishermen at Lake Victoria or the coast catch fish and share with their families.
- Encourage a small act of giving each week to show sharing in practice.

End of notes — Simple, clear, and ready for class. God bless your lesson!
