Where Jesus grew up

Jesus grew up in Nazareth. This is his home town. People sometimes call him “Jesus of Nazareth.”

Who lived with him?

Jesus lived with his mother Mary and his father Joseph. Joseph worked as a carpenter (he made things from wood). Jesus helped and learned from Joseph.

What was Nazareth like?
  • It was a small town, like many villages in Kenya.
  • People knew each other and went to the synagogue (the place to pray and learn).
  • Jesus played, listened to stories, and learned the Scriptures.
Bible Verse (simple)

"After Jesus was born, his family returned to Nazareth, and Jesus grew there." — (Luke 2:39)

Fun facts
  • People called Jesus a "Nazarene" because he came from Nazareth.
  • He learned a useful skill (carpentry) from Joseph — just like craftsmen in our towns.
Class Activity
  1. Draw a small home for Jesus in Nazareth — add trees and friends.
  2. Act out a day in Jesus’ home: helping Joseph, going to the synagogue, and praying with family.
Questions to talk about
  • How is your home like Nazareth?
  • What useful thing would you like to learn, like Jesus learned carpentry?
(Sing or pray with your teacher or parent.)
Note for teachers/parents:

Keep stories simple. Focus on Jesus as a child who lived in a small town, learned from his family, and loved God. Use maps, drawings and role-play to help children imagine life in Nazareth.
