CRE: The Early Life of Jesus Christ
Subtopic: Home Town of Jesus Christ
Hello children! Today we learn about where Jesus grew up. This is about his home town so we can imagine his childhood.
Jesus was born in Bethlehem. (This is where his birth happened.)
Jesus grew up in Nazareth. This is his home town. People sometimes call him βJesus of Nazareth.β
Jesus lived with his mother Mary and his father Joseph. Joseph worked as a carpenter (he made things from wood). Jesus helped and learned from Joseph.
- It was a small town, like many villages in Kenya.
- People knew each other and went to the synagogue (the place to pray and learn).
- Jesus played, listened to stories, and learned the Scriptures.
"After Jesus was born, his family returned to Nazareth, and Jesus grew there." β (Luke 2:39)
- People called Jesus a "Nazarene" because he came from Nazareth.
- He learned a useful skill (carpentry) from Joseph β just like craftsmen in our towns.
- Draw a small home for Jesus in Nazareth β add trees and friends.
- Act out a day in Jesusβ home: helping Joseph, going to the synagogue, and praying with family.
- How is your home like Nazareth?
- What useful thing would you like to learn, like Jesus learned carpentry?
Keep stories simple. Focus on Jesus as a child who lived in a small town, learned from his family, and loved God. Use maps, drawings and role-play to help children imagine life in Nazareth.
