CRE Notes: Elisha and the Boys

Topic: The Early Life of Jesus Christ — Subtopic: Elisha and the Boys
Subject: CRE • Age: 8 years • Kenya

Short Story (easy words)

Elisha was a prophet of God. One day he walked near a town called Bethel. Some boys saw him and laughed at him. They called him names and said, “Go away, bald man!” (They were rude.)

Because the boys were being very disrespectful, God punished them. This story teaches us that we must respect God’s servants and other people. (Bible reference: 2 Kings 2:23–25)

Characters

  • Elisha – a prophet of God (🧔)
  • The boys – some young people who mocked Elisha (🧒🧒)
  • God – who sees what we do (🙏)

Lessons for Kenyan children

  • Respect elders and teachers. In Kenya we greet elders and say "Shikamoo" or listen to teachers in class.
  • Do not make fun of people. Words can hurt feelings and cause trouble.
  • Everyone answers to God. We should obey God and be kind to others.

Memory Verse (easy)

"Show respect to everyone." — (a short idea from Romans 12:10). Try to say it: “Show respect to everyone.”

Activities (fun and simple)

  1. Role-play: In pairs, one child is Elisha and the other is a boy. Practice saying kind words and then practice apologising.
  2. Drawing: Draw Elisha and the boys. Add trees and houses to show the town of Bethel.
  3. Class talk: List ways to show respect at home and at school (greetings, listening, helping).

Questions to think about

  • How do you feel when someone makes fun of you?
  • What should you do if someone is rude to an elder or a teacher?
  • Give one way you can show respect to your parents or grandparents.

A short prayer

Dear God, help us to be kind and respectful. Teach us to listen to our elders and to care for others. Amen. 🙏

Note for teacher/parent: Tell the story gently. For young children avoid scary details. Use the story to teach respect and kindness in a Kenyan setting (home, school, church).
