Subtopic: Human Beings As Coworkers With God
Age group: 10 years | Subject: Christian Religious Education (CRE) — Kenya
- Understand what it means to be a coworker with God.
- Know ways we can care for God's creation at home, school and church.
- Learn a memory verse about caring for the earth.
What does "coworkers with God" mean?
Being God's coworker means God gave people a special job: to look after the world He created. We help God by caring for people, animals and the environment. God trusts us to do good work every day.
Bible stories and verses
- Genesis 2:15: "The LORD God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it." (simple meaning: God gave Adam a job to care for the garden.)
- Genesis 1:26–28: God made humans in His image and gave them responsibility to rule over the earth in a caring way.
Simple examples for Kenyan children
- Plant a tree at school or home — this helps the environment and provides shade.
- Keep your compound clean — collect garbage and reuse things when possible.
- Help look after family goats, cows or chickens — feed them and give clean water.
- Share food with a neighbour who is poor. Being kind is part of caring for God's people.
- Join your church in cleaning or tree-planting day (Harambee for environment).
Classroom activities (fun and simple)
- Draw the Garden of Eden: Include people caring for trees and animals.
- Role-play: One child is God, others are caretakers. Show things they would do.
- Group project: Make posters about "How to care for our environment" and display them.
- Nature walk: Collect fallen leaves, identify plants and talk about why they are important.
Prayer to say with children
"Dear God, thank you for the world you made. Please help us to care for trees, animals and people. Teach us to be good helpers. Amen."
