Power of Intercessory Prayer
Topic: The Church — Subject: CRE (Class for 10 year olds, Kenya)
Intercessory prayer means praying for other people. When we pray for others, we ask God to help them, protect them and give them what they need. The church teaches that we can stand with others before God in prayer.
- It shows love for other people (family, friends, neighbours).
- It helps the church care for the community (for example, sick people or those who have lost homes).
- It asks God to help leaders, schools and the country (like praying for peace in Kenya).
- It brings people closer to God and to each other.
- Start by thanking God for what He has done.
- Name the person or need you are praying for (be specific).
- Ask God to help, protect, heal or guide that person.
- Pray with faith and trust God will hear you.
- Keep praying and follow up by helping the person if you can.
- Family: parents, brothers, sisters, grandparents.
- People at school: teachers and classmates.
- Neighbours and people in our community.
- Leaders: our county leaders, the President, and people who make laws.
- People who are sick or sad, and those who need food or a home.
For a friend: "Dear God, please help my friend who is sick. Give them strength and heal them. Thank you. Amen."
For our school: "Lord, bless our teachers and keep our school safe. Help us learn well. Amen."
For Kenya: "God, bring peace and help our leaders to make good choices. Bless the people who farm and those who are poor. Amen."
The Bible says we should pray for everyone, especially leaders and people in authority (1 Timothy 2:1-2). We can remember that God listens to our prayers.
- Make a prayer list: write 5 people or needs to pray for this week.
- Prayer partners: pair up and pray for each other once a week (with an adult nearby).
- Pray for a community need: choose one thing (like school supplies) and pray as a group.
- Draw a prayer card: draw a picture of someone you are praying for and pin it on a prayer board.
Intercessory prayer is an act of love. When we pray for others, we show we care and we trust God to help them. Even small prayers matter.
